I really have no opinion, because there isn't really enough information to make one.

Im responding, just because it seems like the thing to do. . . 18 pages wow!

It is interesting that if you ask a tech question here, the responses run maybe one or two pages.
But ask for an opinion on which car to buy, or what garage floor color to get, or "which car should I sell to keep my wife happy", or complain about getting ripped off, the threads run past 10 pages . . .

People love to give opinions and make judgements I suppose. I know I am guilty of it.

My girlfriend is looking for a theme for her masters in psychology. . . maybe I should steer her this way...

They're not really needed but I bet they would be worth at least 5 more pages of discussion if we could see them...

Quote: Not one person has yet provided the tiniest FACT supporting that anything the seller did was wrong.

Let's take a hypothetical case that may or may not have anything to do with this:

A guy has a 993 track car, very strong motor, looks great from 20 feet like a good track car should.

He lists it for sale for $50K, hoping to maybe get $40K.
It's NOT hypothetical in my case. Wind the clock back to Jan '07. I think everyone who has been around here 2-5 years knows the car I have, and the previous owner. Near identical to the hypo above. Car isn't. It's light years beyond the one we're talking about here, even if I haven't seen photos....... Sales price was the asking price. It likely started higher, but I'm sure Kim got tired of the posers/wannabes/gottaaskmywifes. He threw a number at me we both could live with. My "PPI" was DRIVING MY *** DOWN TO LAGUNA TO LOOK AT THE CAR IN PERSON. I never even drove the thing until I was belted in and heading for the grid at Thunderhill a week later.

In retrospect, are there things I'm disappointed in? Yeah, but they're 1 on the 10 scale. And it's cosmetic stuff. Big whoop-de-_______-do on a track car. Maybe when I'm bored beyond bored I'll align that trim strip, or fill in the rock chips on the nose. The car is an absolute 10 to drive, and that's what really matters.

when you buy something used, weather it's car, house, clothes, jewelry or whatever, you MUST inspect it in person and preferably bring an expert with you. it doesn't matter whom you bought the item from. i would inspect it even if i was buying from myself.

one time at band camp.

this is insane. someone paid too much for a car, and after x number of months gets remorse. Did the seller have a gun to the buyers head? as far as I recall, you can make an offer on a purchase. case in point, I just bought something (not a car).the person wanted 14k, ......I offered 5k!!......we settled at 6k.......I then had the item checked out. all was good..........I wrote the check. keep in mind the price was 14k, I offered 5k.......my price was accepted....I then did my homework...........GET IT?.........so in keeping with the stupidity of this thread......in 6 months I will be bashed on another forum, for offering so little, yet the buyer accepted the offer?????????

so the OP poster paid too much, boo fukn hoo!!!!!............he/she bought it!......the person selling got all the money for the car..........boo ***'n hoo......last I checked we still live( well for a few more months anyway) in a free market society........by that I mean, for the idiots here.......I can put something up for sale, at any price.....I CHOOSE......and if someone agrees to buy it........at that price....it becomes theirs!!.........so, and I know it maybe hard to understand for many, that want "change" and "fairness" for all........if I have a rock, and I put it on ebay, or whatever site.......and I ask 1 million dollars for the rock........and someone says.....Ok I will pay one million dollars for your rock.......I will collect the 1 million dollars for the rock. all I did was ASK........someone decided that my rock was in fact worth 1 million dollars............GET IT? NO ONE FORCED WHAT EVER HIS SCREEN NAME TO BUY THE CAR FROM WHATEVER HIS SCREEN NAME IS........and to the poster that is taking notes about people who don't agree with the fair market society we live in.....F off!! I have given more P car related stuff, than you have had!!...........

and on that note! I do have a couple of oil filters, free.........just pay the shipping!, and I prolly have some other 993 items...........for free.........just pay the shipping............BUT , BUT, BUT......i will re read this thread, and the guy/gal/dude/dudette/ thats taking notes..............whatever......If you want my free items.........so sorry, they are not free to you.............SUE ME

Here is a plan:

Post a poll so we can vote for the either the Buyer or Seller...
then the winner of the poll can claim the moral high ground and ...
Claim Victory and close the thread!

I knew an English guy here in Tampa years ago who was factory trained in England to work on Rolls Royces, he had an idependent dealership in Tampa where he sold Rolls Royces, he sold a wrecked one to a local Italian doctor, who later found out it was a salvage job. The Dr knew a local family here and put out a hit on him. This guy left the country for a couple of years till he smoothed things out. True story, even though it sounds like an urban myth.
I believe in capitalism and due diligence, but you also never know really who your selling to, some people aren't going to just sue you. So even if you don't feel compelled as a seller to have any moral responsibility in the transaction, self preservation although lower on the pyramid of hierarchial needs is also a good reason.

Something doesn't add up for me... I don't see how the car can be indoors for 6 months and still have a puddles of water in it. Presumably, if it was stored indoors the entire time, wouldn't that water evaporate?

I would buy a garage queen, weekend cruiser or show car sight unseen.

But NEVER EVER, would I buy a DE/Track/DD/Race car sight unseen!!!!! (not even from recognized shops unless it was a shop car). Especially an older model that is subject to ...well.....being old.

And

DEFINITELY NOT SAID CAR (or any car) 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO PICKING IT UP!!!!!!!!!!....Like the Seller said, money is likely going to be spent by then, you buy, it's yours.

So slap on the hand to the buyer.

But some of the terms of the description of the car should have been disclosed and do not add up. All the more reason to have SOMEONE look at the car if you can. Detailed up close pictures and description of the product.

A guy has a 993 track car, very strong motor, looks great from 20 feet like a good track car should.

A guy asks questions, looks at photos, has a PPI done, and offers $44K.

The seller says OK.

Question, class: Did the seller do anything wrong?

If you say yes, you do not graduate to first grade, and have to remain in kindergarden.

If you say no, congratulations! Welcome to a free market economy, where willing buyers and sellers make transactions only when it suits them both.
Agree.

Assuming he's as right now as he was wrong then, the money difference between what the owner believes the car worth now and what he believed months ago is insignificant. Remember, these are only American dollars we're talking here.

Not to take away-from or diminish anyones position here, but from a position of fairness and impartiality (having just seen some of the posts here due to being on business travel) I suggest that if we put this much energy into figuring out how to get fuel prices down, we might succeed!
