I came across your information about the 993 Targa roof. I just purchased a very low mileage (19k) 1997 Targa and I was wondering if you had any advice for parts I should stockpile or anything I should be aware of to prolong the life of this apparently delicate system.

I know you haven't been on the forums in a while. I hope you are well and I very much appreciate any thoughts you can share.

I found them at Los Angeles Porsche Dismantlers for $500 and had my body guy paint them—as well as one door that was too dented

I just came across of your post about stollen mirrors, sadly, it did happened to me as well this morning. They just pulled them off forcefully. I'm heartbroken. Where did you find replacements? I can't find anything, hopefully insurance gives me enough for a new once. Thank you, dima

Mike recommended I contact you - as I am having trouble with my Targa which I bought recently knowing the roof was in bad shape. I have removed the whole mechanism, stripped it, cleaned it all and bought a couple of repair kits and am ready to put it back together before it goes for a respray and a new rear window (another story).

The problem I have is some of the plastic slides that push onto the gates are in poor condiion and one is actually missing. I got two of the long thin ones in the kit with the cables but none of the shorter deeper ones. They don't seem to be in the other kits or the PET.

I am struggling with this, I've been in contact with several people from Rennlist and I'm waiting Bob @ Sunset to get back to me but my emails to him with a picture bounce back.

If you've time to help and can shed any light on the parts I am missing it would be much appreciated. There's a picture on p3 of my post 'aaarghh targa top disaster'.

Hello, I have a 96 993 Targa...unfortunately my drive cables are shot. I have seen your posts regarding Targa roof repair. I am a decent home mechanic, with a good amount of experience so I am considering removing the roof and trying to repair it myself. I was hoping that if it's not too much trouble, I could have a discussion with you, or perhaps you could email me any info or directions on the procedure and specialty tools involved. I have 96 993 Targa. Beautiful car - especially like the opennes and headroom that the Targa offers! I saw you great article and the voluminous research and work you have done on the Targa operation. I was wondering if you can help me with a particular problem I'm having.

The Wind deflector would not operate properly on right side. I ordered and installed the $650+ kit from Porschees another $700 kit! I have it all together but the cables do not engage the deflector going up, drive it closed OK but not open. Seems the cables are not engaging the deflector to drive it up? There Any thought? experiences here? What is the mechanism that engages the lifter to the cable? Any pics of this?

My name is Yvan Blomme from Brussels in Belgium. I bought a beautiful 1996 Targa 3 weeks ago but only a few days after having bought it the glass roof jammed! I followed your very useful explanations on Pcarworkshop (thank you for that, it is a great job) and came to the conclusion that I have to replace the cables which are stripped and now slightly bended. The Porsche dealerships around Brussels are asking me between 4.500€ and 8.500€ ($6.500 - $12.300)to fix it, this is insane!!
I am sure that I can do that by myself if I can do it with the top on the car. I know that it is going to be difficult and that is why I am asking your help to get me started. How do you do that?

This is Marc Gianzero from Orange County, CA. You helped me repair my 911 targa top last summer. As it turns out, I was successful in changing out the cables for the glass using the Porsche repair kit, but I never completed the project since I ran out of spare time. Now I'm back to it.
This leads me to the following questions:
What adhesive did you use to put things back together such as the "water channel" and other rain gutter parts? Did you purchase some butyl adhesive from Porsche or use something else?
