Yeah that repair is horrible. Almost looks like great stuff spray foam that's been shaved back. I like that it still has the sticker from the parts department on it as well.
The coated exhaust car does look awesome. Now I know what I'm doing this winter. (I actually like the contrast of the clamps vs coating them)
This is one of those auctions that actually needs to be pulled by the website. Selling this car without disclosure of major league front end damage is straight up fraud. I have half a mind to register on that website just to link this page.
Lawsuit! That’s clearly “Non-Disclosure” to an unsuspecting buyer. Jerry Seinfeld ring a bell…… never stand up court. Seller’s hanging his hat on the CarFax being “clear.” What a cluster! Again why you should never purchase a car “sight unseen.” Crazy! Six figures as well to boot! Problem is in this market it’s hard to find 993s especially WB cars… thus the result here…… wow
Judging by the rear plate visible in one photo, the sellers user name, and the incredible car itself- I think it is safe to say that it is long time rennlister LAURIER's auction.
(Although he hasn't posted here in a long while.)
He has always kept the car impeccable and then some.
I agree that it should be a record setter. Wishing him the best!
On these auction sites, can bids be pulled when something like this is discovered?
I’m sure if you share the disclosure and discovery with the auction site’s support team, and you don’t have a history of asking to pull a bid, they’ll accommodate.

don’t be so sure on a site like pcar, I wouldn’t be surprised if they also knew about this damage and didn’t care.

it’s all about “buy the seller” on the other end of the spectrum you have Tarek307 on Instagram going through a c2S he has with an old accident on carfax taking it to a body shop putting on frame machine getting measured , taking inside of fender wells off to inspect and showing all this on his Instagram stories before even offering the car for sale, now that’s full disclosure and transparency. Sight unseen is safe if buying from a trusted transparent seller

Wishing him the best? The seller is the liar, not the auction site...
So does this 'storied' car have a fair price point? If it stays at around $110k, does it make an acceptable buy, considering that otherwise this is a $160k-$170k car all day long?
^ I think yes, at some price it's worthwhile. If I were in the market I would buy it with the intention of fixing it correctly. So if the purchase price exceeded the cushion to do so I would pass.
Seems too good of a car otherwise to leave it as-is
I also have a thesis that some (not all but some) of these 993s listed on PCARMARKET and other sites during the pandemic are BAD cars. Not that they aren’t worth owning, but they are cars that 2 or 3 years ago rennlisters would pass over due to paint work or questionable mileage (odometer disconnected)
With somewhat limited supply in this market sellers are putting these previously undesirable cars on the market and getting top dollar. When I look closely I can see the marring and glue around the odometers and of course carfax shows 20k miles in 2003 and 21k miles in 2021 with no record in between. That reads as a disconnected odometer to me. Not a car I want to touch… Other sellers state “all original paint” but when metered the seller is “shocked” to find the entire left side was resprayed and has body filler.
Nothing wrong with some paint work, but the non disclosure would cause me to walk every time.
If you have a good clean honest example I say hold. They will only continue to appreciate and in 10 - 15 years when the base price for a new 911 is approaching $200k a perfect 993 may feel like a bargain at over $200k ?
^ I posted this a couple months ago on this thread ^
I still believe it to be true. There are great cars out there, but with this crazy 993 market the undesirable cars are coming out of storage and unsuspecting (or uneducated) buyers who don’t know what to look for are paying top dollar for them.
As for the value of a damaged car. Sure there is a fair market value. For me personally; I would wait to find a good clean no story example.
I get the concept of “buy the seller” but I recommend you “buy the car” Even the most honest sellers do end up with undesirable cars from time to time. Do your homework and know the car…When it comes to these auctions - I only trust what I can verify.
