EVs remind me of smart phones....expensive when new and depreciate like a rock.

The discussion above on EV weight made me think as to why the Taycan has such huge brakes. Well looks like it needs to stop a ton of weight and it made me think how heavy is it compared to my Suburban:

What about it appeals to you since it will be heavier, more expensive and lack emotional connection with lack of sound, gear shifts etc.

I understand your thought process but the VGT Turbo technology will not be used on the 992.2 Base. It is quite expensive.
I guess the generic public announcement was that the 992.2 base will use the larger turbo's from the 992.1 Turbo. But if they don't use the VGT from the 992.1 turbo than the statement they made is incorrect, i.e. the 992.2 base turbo has little to do with the 992.1 VGT except maybe its volume.

No. The “public announcement” was that the 992.2 base is now using the larger turbos from the 992.1 S/GTS and the larger intercoolers from the 992.1 turbo

Mhm, I guess I need to go back and listen to it again - I thought they said they use the 992.1 turbo's but that would sure make sense if the just use the GTS turbo's. Too bad.

PS: I now found that in Car and Driver that now even suggests that the intercooler is also from GTS and not Turbo. Maybe different outlets report that wrong and the one I read had it wrong too regarding what turbo they use. Using the GTS turbo and intercooler is nice but less exciting to me than the idea of having the Variabe Vane Turbo inthe base engine. "The twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six in the Carrera continues with the same displacement but sees updates including the intercooler from the previous GTS and a new turbocharger adapted from the same."

Excerpt from the 992.2 press release:

The 911 Carrera continues to be powered by a 3.0 liter twin-turbo boxer engine, which has been significantly updated. It is now equipped with the intercooler used in the 911 Turbo models, which is placed above the engine directly beneath the rear decklid grille. The turbochargers of the new 911 Carrera were adopted from the previous 911 Carrera GTS models.

Thanks for clarifying. I just was getting excited about the Variable Vane turbo..oh well. GTS turbo's are a nice upgarde too and tuners can easily unlock the power with small changes to the existing tunes.

Me too. When the EV Cayman arrives our 911's will feel ancient overnight.

You really think so? You could be right but I'm hoping not. Aren't they going to be crazy heavy? I'm guessing that the exterior styling will be impressive.

If it's anything like the design direction they went with the new Cayenne and Taycan, I think it'll be an intriguing 3rd or 4th car. I'm thinking of adding an electric car to use around town, and given the depreciation on EVs, would consider buying one a year or 2 old at significant discount for such purpose.

It is just a joke.
