992.2 Info

A little bit more intel from a brand ambassador I've talked to for a while, to be taken with a grain of salt as usual:
"Regarding the new one, Porsche will be revealing the first two variants of the .2, it will be the base and the GTS, the big part of the reveal will be a non-plug in hybrid version of the GTS. There is very little info on the Turbos, we know they will be dropping the Turbo and only offer the Turbo S and may be a hybrid variant of that. I have not heard anything about a manual rwd Turbo. They did that in this last run of 911s with the Sport Classic, that was the RWD manual version. There is a very big secret that is not fully confirmed but I will say I do believe it will be coming, they designed a 3.4L naturally aspirated one that is coming that will be a new trim level."

ya, it would sell like hotcakes. Well.. maybe not a 3.4, but a 4.0L NA over 400hp in a 911 that wasn’t ridiculously priced would. It’s crazy you get get a Cayman with a 4.0L for near 100K, but in a 911 you have to spend ridiculous amounts of money, ADMs and “know someone” to even have the opportunity to buy the cars offered. Realistically, the 4.0L cars offered aren’t really good fits for “real driving” either. The GT3 and RS are track cars, S/T even has compromises with single mass flywheel, loud interior, rarity (makes most hesitant to put excessive miles on it), roll cage, etc., all which keep it from being a good daily usable 911. What’s so hard about making more 4.0L NA engines? This is exactly what the 911 T should be.

The 3.4 was in the 991.1 at 345bhp, and in the Cayman S at ~325bhp. But I agree, I think any NA motor offered needs to be over 400HP to be interesting.

I believe it could be the S which is coming with the NA, which is why they are delaying it till after the GTS launch.
Unless, of course, the GTS is the one with the 3.6 NA plus a hybrid.
My head started to hurt!

Any high performance version (over 400hp) of a NA motor, and a manual, in a non-GT car will sell like hot cakes on a cold day. If it’s not priced to the stratosphere. And agree, they need to find a niche price point and model, to not kill the base, S and GTS versions.

The 992.2 GTS hybrid sounded turbocharged (in the video Porsche release). If there will be a non GT NA engine in the 992.2 it doesn't look like it will be the GTS. There is high demand for a high revving, NA, non GT 911. I hope they make it. It would make a lot of sense if this 3.4 or 3.6L engine went into something like the Carrera T with a stick... Also I have no inside info. Just wishful thinking on a Friday night!

On the 5/28 release date when all is revealed, each of the prominent posters should self grade your submissions to this thread on accuracy of final product. Especially those that had “good sources”. 😊

That’s the thing, I do not believe all will be revealed on 5/28. It will more than likely only involve the models to launch first with additional details pertaining to the other models to arrive at a later date.

So, an S/T lite? Seems the theory of "make limited production of formula people want, then make it standard the next generation" might gain yet another example.
