Base Carrera vs Carrera S

I was in the same boat between C4 vs C4S. Awd was a must as I daily drive in the north east. When it came down to it there aren't many C4 available and it ended up being easier to aquire a C4S faster. My personal vote is to get into any 911 that you can get asap to maximize your enjoyment.

I agree. I would have gone with C, C4, CS or C4S. C4 was offered so I went for it. Got the sport package so I have PTV.

Almost ready to pull the trigger on a brand new 992 and I'm stuck between the base Carrera and the Carrera S. My last Porsche was a 2016 Cayman S which felt fine in terms of speed/power. I'm wondering if the upgrade to the S version of the 911 would be significant enough to justify the higher price. My build on the base 992 comes to about 118k whereas my build on the S comes to about 139k. Having not driven the S, I wanted to see anyone could share their thoughts on these two models, anything other than difference in speed to consider? Appreciate any feedback.

I have gone from GTS to Carrera T because I found the GTS boring, not challenging at all even at above legal speeds, it's too damn competent, needs an autobahn. But on the other hand I have owned 4 911s, a GT4, 2 Ferraris and McLaren 600LT Spider recently and I think I have gotten "proving how big my ********* are by how fast my car theoretically goes" out of my system.
the 2025 naturally aspired 3.6L on the GTS will be a game changer

If you like to feel the thrust of the car when you hit the gas to go from say 30 to 70, 20 to 60, 30-50 etc get the S with the additional torque. Complete nonsense that you cannot enjoy the extra power on the road.

The sad part is, nowadays, if you want to buy a nicely equipped S, you have to fork out 170 k

Even in a Base, that type of acceleration lasts a maximum of two seconds at full throttle. Tell me again about all of this extra power in the S that you are enjoying on the road.

There I told you again, albeit in a different manner.

Absolutely.
The amount of instant torque is ALSO why some of us have added an EV to our stable. My EV has 502 lb-ft of torque and 469 bhp. Off the line, hard to beat the instant torque of EV, but take it out a bit, and the 992S begins to pull away.
PS - For those who say 0-60 (etc) doesn’t matter…or you’ll never use/need that acceleration….I say baloney. At least a few times a month, I’ll find myself in the wrong lane, with an exit that I need to take coming up. My wife use to scream at me that I need to get over…”I’m in the wrong lane”. She doesn’t do that anymore, as in the blink of an eye, I move out and over to make my turn/exit, in plenty of time. Absolutely no sweat.

OK-step on the gas at 30 and feel 390 lbs of torque do their job till 50 and feel the amount of thrust. Do the same with a base with what 330 or so ft lbs of torque and feel the thrust. The difference is what I enjoy!

Many of us here prefer NA. The smaller turbos feel NA. It's my draw to the T and would not get an S or GTS because they feel more like a turbo car compared to the base engine.

So you like turbo power. Ok. For some of us, stepping on the gas to feel a rush of power for a handful of seconds in a straight line is not exciting.
