Comparing Base to S by Car and Driver (all things being equal?) I think most would be hard pressed to really feel the difference between the two on the road; on the track is another story.
Base:
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.4 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 3.0 sec
S:
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.2 sec

Top gear, 50–70 mph: 2.7 sec

PS - For those who say 0-60 (etc) doesn’t matter…or you’ll never use/need that acceleration….I say baloney. At least a few times a month, I’ll find myself in the wrong lane, with an exit that I need to take coming up. My wife use to scream at me that I need to get over…”I’m in the wrong lane”. She doesn’t do that anymore, as in the blink of an eye, I move out and over to make my turn/exit, in plenty of time. Absolutely no sweat.

Well being in the wrong lane is a user error. Maybe be a better driver?

This is proof that “amazing instant torque “ some think they feel is not reality but a personal thing. In reality these numbers are very similar.

Maybe? Or maybe, it doesn’t really matter.

Top Gear, 30–50 mph: 1.5 sec
Top Gear, 50–70 mph: 1.9 sec

Being in the wrong lane is being a bad driver. Maybe look into that driving ed book and relearn when to change to the lane you are exiting etc.

if you truly want to drive your car take it to the track. It will make you a better driver and you will not be the “wrong lane driver “ anymore

Once you start tracking your car you will always be mommied because you come off as a teenager. Don’t act like a teenager your years have long gone. Take care.

I’ll look for you behind me in the rear view mirror…on, or off the track. It doesn’t mater.

See you at WGI this Spring?

Happy and safe driving.

Lmao. The guy who was asking a year ago about tracking the car and what costs it would incur because he never tracked a car before became a pro all of a sudden. Yeah man, you are a lost cause. Continue your teenager ways. Take care. Glad not living anywhere close to where you are living.

C’mon now. I’m sure everybody, including you, have been in the wrong lane for whatever reason. Why talk sh*t about that? Find something substantive to have an internet squabble over.

Umm, wrong.

My fist track event was 10 years ago in my M4 @Road Atlanta and BMW track at SC. Track every other year when time permits, or recently, COVID restrictions. But unlike you, I don’t think I have all the answers, so I ask to get other opinions/advice …especially on a new car that I’ve never driven on track before…. (for me), ie. the 992. Oh, and planned to put the 992 on the track last year, but family events derailed that plan.

But plan to be at WGI this Spring. See ya there?!

To use a horse metaphor, the S is always champing at the bit, eager to bolt at the slightest throttle input. Coupled with SPASM - which all the S 992s I've driven have had - it's just not as well-calibrated for everyday/all use scenarios as my base on PASM suspension, especially given the condition of roads here and the fact that winter lasts from November to April.
Is this issue serious enough to outweigh the S advantages such that you’d take a base over an S even if they were the exact same price? Many thanks!

Anyone have experience driving a tuned base vs a S? Do they drive similar in the sense of power delivery? I've heard complaints about turbo lag in the S, do you notice that in a tuned base? Does the tuned base still have the linear power feel? Any other differences in driving experience?

The main reasons I ordered the S were - the brakes, the resale value.
