…and that;’s why Porsche has been so successful….they offer a smorgasbord of choices to the consumer….because they know that not all customers think alike and want the same thing.

Comparing Base to S by Car and Driver (all things being equal?) I think most would be hard pressed to really feel the difference between the two on the road; on the track is another story.
Base:
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.4 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 3.0 sec
S:
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.2 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 2.7 sec
Base:
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.4 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 3.0 sec
S:
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 2.2 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 2.7 sec

Absolutely.
The amount of instant torque is ALSO why some of us have added an EV to our stable. My EV has 502 lb-ft of torque and 469 bhp. Off the line, hard to beat the instant torque of EV, but take it out a bit, and the 992S begins to pull away.
PS - For those who say 0-60 (etc) doesn’t matter…or you’ll never use/need that acceleration….I say baloney. At least a few times a month, I’ll find myself in the wrong lane, with an exit that I need to take coming up. My wife use to scream at me that I need to get over…”I’m in the wrong lane”. She doesn’t do that anymore, as in the blink of an eye, I move out and over to make my turn/exit, in plenty of time. Absolutely no sweat.

Well being in the wrong lane is a user error. Maybe be a better driver?

if you truly want to drive your car take it to the track. It will make you a better driver and you will not be the “wrong lane driver “ anymore

Umm, wrong.
My fist track event was 10 years ago in my M4 @Road Atlanta and BMW track at SC. Track every other year when time permits, or recently, COVID restrictions. But unlike you, I don’t think I have all the answers, so I ask to get other opinions/advice …especially on a new car that I’ve never driven on track before…. (for me), ie. the 992. Oh, and planned to put the 992 on the track last year, but family events derailed that plan.
But plan to be at WGI this Spring. See ya there?!

The S torque “spike” shown on the dyno chart is what I’m feeling that I don’t care for in day-to-day street use. It makes the car a bit too frenetic compared to the base, where the power comes on in a more linear fashion that is a bit more tame, thus making the base a more enjoyable car for me to drive with moderate throttle input. To use a horse metaphor, the S is always champing at the bit, eager to bolt at the slightest throttle input. Coupled with SPASM - which all the S 992s I've driven have had - it's just not as well-calibrated for everyday/all use scenarios as my base on PASM suspension, especially given the condition of roads here and the fact that winter lasts from November to April.

Anyone have experience driving a tuned base vs a S? Do they drive similar in the sense of power delivery? I've heard complaints about turbo lag in the S, do you notice that in a tuned base? Does the tuned base still have the linear power feel? Any other differences in driving experience?
