Are these truly just stickers as was suggested above or is the image part of the button. My feeling is that these buttons are manufactured that way with the image of the exhaust being translucent so you can see the red light through the button..Making me think the T may be a one year only parts bin special (in my view making it even more desirable) as I’m sure the .2 cars will have a redesigned dash.
That is exactly what T is: base model with desirable options, which happen to be in the parts bin, before new model being launched. As with supply chain disruptions they lead-up with overs and unders: manual transmission and lighter glass (overs), BOSE and exhaust toggle button (unders), etc.
Cool and quirky model at a historical point in time.

Updated my build because of the PTS stop sell. Note for anyone who is planning on getting outraged about this price for a T being a criminal affront to the T ethos: Canadian dollars!

The first time around (991.2), it would be easier to characterize the Carrera T as parts bin. But, as an earlier poster pointed out, there remains so much unfulfilled demand for other Carrera variants, all Porsche would need to do to move any remaining parts is build more examples of already existing models. Regardless of spec, they would easily sell. We are lucky Porsche decided to offer the 992.1 T, because they sure didn’t have to do so. In fact, I’m surprised they went to the trouble. They could have waited to offer the T at the end of the 992.2 run.

I wanted to add one more piece of interesting news from todays trip to the dealer. The National Porsche Rep was there today so this is why I was getting all of this confirmed info directly from him. On top of the configurator update news, The Bucket Seat news, and the allocation news...
Earlier in this thread I posted pictures that show the buttons on the dash that are for PASM, Sport Exhaust, Front axle Lift etc... When you look at config there are TWO "custom" buttons with diamonds, and only the exhaust shows up if you select the exclusive design tailpipes in silver... THIS IS NOT A GLITCH. The T will not have the exhaust button inside unless you option the exclusive tailpipes, OR if you option front axle lift... which is why all the press cars have the exhaust button because they all had front axle lift on them.
This may not matter to most, but I really like the exhaust button easily in reach, so I will now be altering my build to have one of those two options to ensure that I get that button.

I'm guessing the 992.2 base Carrera will be hybrid and PDK only. It will probably be heavier and offer significantly improved acceleration and power. If they make a 992.2 T, it will not be a manual and/or won't follow the current T formula of using the base powertrain. To me, that fits with the current base Carrera being PDK only and why they offered the 992.1 T now. I agree they did not have to build the T at all, but am glad they did. I am assuming they had the product planning for the Carrera lineup, including the T, all done before the Covid craziness, and are just adapting to the current spot shortages of certain components and options (like Bose, etc). This is all speculation on my part but it seems to make sense.
Regarding product planning, you may well be right. But PAG easily could have nixed the T this time around. It’s not going to save them from over-supply because the supply hasn’t been close to meeting demand for preexisting variants.

Just answered in my most recent post, but wanted to address you directly too...
"The North American Porsche Rep Was at my dealer in MA today and I spoke directly with him... He confirmed that the car will come with two diamond "custom Buttons" unless you select either FAL or Exclusive design tailpipes... The FAL is always going to be on the far left of the button layout, and they didnt want to leave the second button in as a Diamond custom button if the far left is designated as FAL. If you select the "Exclusive Design Tailpipes" they give you the exhaust button on the dash as a result of selecting that option.. No idea why other than its a quirky T option."

I have been doing the same thing when justifying my build. After the conversion it almost seems like we get a deal if you forget about tax. This might still turn out to be one of the highest spec'd cars out there. One thing to note, you chose black deviated stitching for the extended leather package, is this on purpose or did you mean for it to be GT Silver stitching like the rest of your deviated stitching?

What else can you program the diamond switch to do? I was thinking it would be nice as an auto blip toggle
