Got some bad news yesterday I had taken my T for service for an engine light without a code see attached email from service manager.

Good Morning Mr. Carnevale,
We pulled the oil pan down last night into this morning and found metal in the oil.
The engine will need to be replaced, and the next step is looking at parts availability via Porsche North America.
We aren't sure yet, but we are thinking that something is wrong with the Cylinder wall surface material that's coming apart.
We will know better once the engine is out of the car during the replacement and we can tear the engine down a bit.

Your other concern is that the engine will be with a remanufactured engine rather than a new engine.
This is a requirement of Porsche North America unfortunately.
If a "remanufactured" Part is available, we are required to install that component.
If it's not, then we are allowed to put in a "new" part.
This is controlled and mandated by Porsche North America and is uniform across all vehicle manufacturers in my experience.

I'm sorry this is happening, it's a rarity for sure so we don't have a huge amount of information. Please let me know if you have additional questions and we will do our best to answer and assist of course.

Apologetically

What a surprise I never expected to hear my engine was shot, now I wait for Porsche to buy the car back with another allocation for a new T.
First off, sorry to hear this; I'm optimistic Porsche will work things out and wish you better days. Glad you posted on here to share with everyone for the sake of visibility and bringing attention to what's hopefully an anomaly. I would be pushing for a new car with that low mileage because it's a Porsche 911. This would not be the type of press Porsche wants.

I will PPF windshield when I get my car (still at Benicia - has anyone's car been released from the port following the saga?). First time. I'll report back with experience. Mine will see proper highway once a week and hopefully I can keep windshield replacement at bay.

@Rich_911T there's a recall on the thin glass. If there was no contact and it suddenly cracked, take it to the dealer. There's a bulletin out on this. Do a search. @CamsPorsche when I got mine fixed under warranty, I requested the normal glass windshield and was denied. They have to replace it with the original equipment. So, yes, I did put the film on the replacement windshield. It's not just about the cost, it took nearly a month to get it fixed and had to travel far to do it. I'd like to prevent the hassle again.

Ok thanks for this. I'm likely having the car PPF'd so I'll get them to install on the windshield as well.

ExoShield and ClearPlex are the two leading manufacturers. Xpel recently announced at their annual dealer meeting in San Antonio, Texas that they are bringing windshield protection film to the market in the Spring of 2024. I was investigating it earlier this afternoon. It only comes with a one year, 12,000 mile warranty.

Baby GT3 wing there. Is that Ice Grey Metallic? Edit: forgot to quote 5senna5 post. Rookie error.

Just ordered a 992 myself and am debating IGM vs GB.

Very pleased about the Mint Grun PTS paint choice.
You never know until you see a shade on a car 'in the metal'.

Amazing PTS color choice! IMO, it even upstages the Ruby Star in the background in your pics, which is no easy feat
