I'm only a couple years away from the target age for their demographic. I'm under the curve, not above it, and Porsche absolutely is trying to garner younger buyers as everyone else is, like Corvette who has a really bad case of an aging purchase group.

Something is weird....recent Christophorus says new car is lighter??

Always enjoy Stouts reviews. If he doesn't like something he will tell you but not make it sound like it is fact and everyone else is wrong unlike a couple of people here. Much easier to read and believe that way.....positive or negative.
I believe he liked 991.2 base better as a DD due to gearing/torque? Thanks Pete.

[QUOTE=Psorcery;16008694]Post of the day.

No. What does me driving the new vette have anything to do with that post? I only said I would not sing and praise it.

You said new Vette was Cheaply made with crappy fit and finish. Curious how you knew that.

marketing spin...or your reading skills, no offense. The 992 is over a hundred pounds heavier than the 991.2, this is confirmed from multiple independent sources, not biased ones.

Marketing spin, I'd bet. Probably says something about the frame being lighter due to more extensive use of lighter weight materials*. But once you tack on the new transmission, safety gear, emissions stuff, etc it is unquestionably heavier than the outgoing model (spec for spec).

*I'm making that up. No idea if "frame" is even a proper term for how cars are built these days.

I read that misleading article in Christophorus as well. Talk about "fake news." Very deceptive. What they said was true, sort of. The frame is lighter but the car is heavier despite the lighter frame. They do not mention that the car is heavier. I'd have to go back to the tapes, but I do believe they say the car is lighter which is patently false. What they really mean is the frame is lighter and they fail to mention that the car is actually heavier than the 991, despite the lighter frame.

Just out of curiosity what’s the targeted age .......just hit 50, and on my 5th Porsche. I know darn well can’t be my millennial kids 22, and 23 still talking cash from us(: Actually, I sold my 458 NA, and opted to test a Mclaren that more tricked out on gages where Porsche is going. Can say it takes some time to get use too. I do love the Porsche simple gages, and not a fan of all the toggling through screens interferes with driving.

‘’I think more would accept the change had they moved out of the 60 year old design with new modern gauges? The GT cars is where my buying decisions hit the table. If not, the 991.2 RS stays in my garage for a long time. Fun times to say the least never seen so many cars in the market to choose from, but I do think Porsche has some risk with a 911 being 150k.

Nice deflection! Let's put it another way. You are not a potential customer at ANY AGE. In your case, it's moot. And age is only one part of a demographic, and small, at that.

Porsche has different market segments they target. It's not just cranky 50yr old white men who aspire to have a 911 and supposedly have incomes of $400K.

One of the biggest influencers in car design for them now is China. Their NUMBER ONE sales market and they realize the upside is even more than any other countries. The guy described above is yesterday's news. He only has been the actual buyer of 911's, not necessarily their target market. Porsche would be happy to sell cars to donkeys if they could write a check for one.

Someone with some brains can have great comments if they have a solid business mind.

Just because they're not actively looking to buy a 992 doesn't mean they don't have any good insight to offer. They actually might have a better one since they're not looking to justify their current purchase and shopping decisions.

Is China really Porsche's number one market?

I've heard quite a bit of back and forth on that because of the 718 forums, but I've not seen it confirmed in numbers. I'm curious as to what the numbers are per market. I would have guessed the States are number one simply because of the Macan and Cayenne.

It is, but not for the 911 or 718 models.

Macans, Cayans, and Panameras. Yes. And those are the cars driving PAG revenues worldwide.

China surpassed the USA in total Porsche sales at least a few years ago.

Thanks! I figured Panameras, but would not have guessed Macans and Cayennes.

Looks like in 2018 the numbers were 80K for China and 57K for the States. Surpassed significantly.
