992 - another overpriced, unsatisfying non-GT 911

When I fire up my 991.2 it's like, "OK. Here we go."
When I fire up my 981 Boxster GTS it's like, "ALRIGHT! Let's do this thing, mothertruckers!!!"

Agreed , not a fair fight..... NA sounds so much better to me too. PSE helps 991.2. My first one had it but current 991.2 NEEDS it.

New models are to be avoided (from hard experience), so both the 992 and C8 are no-go. This what part of what prompted me to order my 991.2.
When I shopped, issues with customer service (been there with Chevrolet) and silly problems (cracked wheels, auto trans concerns, plus the usual complaints about the interior) steered me away from the Corvette.
I knew that the 992 would have teething issues and that other factors (inevitable price hike, they are selling everything they make) plus unknown/unwanted changes (PDK only) led me to my purchase.
To purchase a similar 992 would cold at least $10k higher w/o my manual trans choice. I got what I wanted and for a lesser outlay.

Yep, I knew the MT would be coming but like I said before, other factors were in play, plus it would have delayed getting the vehicle for nearly a year more.

I am not happy with the 992 and have really struggled to see how other members are so far off from my point of view on the 992. Especially when I encounter so many other Porsche guys / enthusiasts in the real world who's concerns regarding the car so closely match my own. Perhaps I'm just not running in the same circles?
And what's ultimately the issue if some people like the 992 whereas you don't?

I'm a long time owner of 911s. My first was a 1970 911E which cost me a little over $7K or around $45K in todays dollars. 911s have always been expensive, but IMO with the 992, they have reached the obscene level. No offense intended to 992 buyers. I'm certain it's a good value for those who like what the car offers, but it's just not for me. OTOH this may be the last ICE engine that Porsche makes. So if you don't already own a 911, this may be your last chance to buy a new ICE sports car. For the value buyers, I'd suggest buying a used one. If you like the 992, I suspect that you'll be able to buy low mileage CPO 992s in a couple of years at great prices.

Porsche makes cars to make a profit so we can typically assume they try to build what their customers like. The issue is that if he doesn't like the 992 - then in effect, Porsche doesn't make a new 911 that he likes and they're developing the car toward the tastes of other people (probably a lot of Chinese people since even though they may make up a small percentage of the 911 market, it's clear Porsche is basing the 911 interior off the other models to save costs and not vice-versa). Not so hard to understand why that might be upsetting to a lifetime 911 enthusiast like most of the guys in this forum right?

LOL I've been at Watkins Glen DEs with my GT3 for the past couple years, and there were a few "piece of crap Vette" Z06s on the track. What I quickly learned is that in the hands of a competent driver, that $85K "piece of crap Vette" Z06 can hold its own against a $165K GT3. As far as C8 ADMs are concerned, all the big Corvette dealers are selling at MSRP. I live in MD, and Criswell is selling at MSRP. On the Corvette forum, they have a long list of dealers selling at MSRP. In my case I'll be waiting for the 700 HP C8 Z06 which should be released in 2021. The rumor is that GM will be offering the Z06 for around $80K, nicely equipped $10K -$15K more.

I think they'll eventually put the 9A2 Evo motor in an updated 992, fix most of the stuff people are complaining about like the nub and ultimately make it a more exciting and valuable car than the 991.2 regular models.

Ya...I was specifically referring to the notoriously poor interior design/quality, not racetrack performance. To each their own but the new C8 interior, and everything else about it, looks a lot better than the C7. I could be wrong though because I remember thinking how cheap the C7 looked the first time I saw one in person after I thought it looked okay in photos. The rear fender vents on the C7 had little plastic fins where a piece of carbon fiber could have looked incredible and probably cost GM a minuscule amount with their scale.
