lived in va for 20 years and all my cars had remote detectors (fuses intact). If you read the law all it says is they can confiscate it and add a $50 fine. So what, you think donut boy is going to start a 8 hour job to take out your detector on the side of 495 ? Plug the fuse in and protect yourself. Also lasers are not regulated by the state only RF by my understanding. Obviously, if you get pulled hit the power button. Unless they visually observe it operational very hard to prove.

Yeah I thought about it, my worry is that they could try confiscate it then make you have the removal done. Not sure what the extent of what they are allowed to do. I do not even know where the thing is even installed since none of it is visible. Also not sure how good they are at detecting them.
I hope you're right. Debating another 991.1 next year (but this time an S) or a 991.2 base. Yet to drive a 991.2,
I too was looking for a 991.1 S or a 991.2 base but ended up with a 991.1 S earlier this year.
If the car is maintained well, and you can get 75K for it, then it becomes a great deal. It is a well speced base car equivalent to equally optioned 991.1 Carrera S.
IMO, the 991.2 makes for a better daily driver if that is what you are after.
I have never seen a well optioned 991.2 base at $120k MSRP at 70K, private party or not, for the record, so I have no idea what others are talking about it being 10-15k over.

Agree. My 991.1 base was my daily for nearly two years and would have loved the torque of the .2. This go-round it will not be a daily driver, so less of a concern for me.
Once the trust is gone, IMHO no point trying to make a deal work.... Especially when buying a car long distance.
I completely understand where you are coming from, however I wouldnt let this be a deterrent. If it passes CPO that is a good sign of the cars over all clean bill of health. You should still do your own PPI and now have them focus on the K40 removal areas and see if anything was 'yanked' out and use it to further negotiate.
My guess is someone at the dealership wanted the unit and they made this excuse to remove it and make up a BS story for you. I'd turn it around on them. You can even go the ' CPO the car and install the unit back on' Route vs them. Lol
Manheim MMR Base is $77,300 for a 2017 Carrera with 21,700 miles. I highly doubt you will find many significantly less than this when dealers can run them through the auction.
In the past few months one sold for 66K with 40K miles and one sold at $73K with 32,500 miles. All the other transactions were $78K to $84,750.
That said, as we get into fall and winter prices will likely start to drop. Obviously private party sales are a bit different.
Does anyone know if Porsche prohibits a dealer from CPO'ing a car if it has an added, installed radar detector?
I am purchasing a 911 from a Porsche dealer with CPO. A price was offered by the dealer and I agreed. It was with CPO, but the CPO inspection evidently hadn't been completed yet..
The car had a very expensive K40 360 and laser jammer installation on it at the time of negotiation, and nothing was said about it being removed. Without notifying me, they decided to rip the system out of the car (a pretty big job), and will not include it, even uninstalled. They claim that this is because "Porsche will not allow them" to sell a car with a built in radar detector under the CPO program. Furthermore, some of the trim pieces need to complete the removal were either damaged during their removal or modified during the thrid party install (details are fuzzy on this from the dealer) and they are back-ordered from Germany. They are telling me they don't know how long it will take to get parts, put the car back together, and complete the CPO.
And as the final "this dealer is full of #%&" move, they added (intentionally buried might be a better description) a $1,000 hard-wired "GPS theft deterrent tracker" to the buyers order they just sent over....
What??? Not only do I not want your BS tracker, how is a third party, hard wired GPS tracker installed in my car any different than the radar detector you insisted couldn't be on the car with a CPO?
There were several other interactions (or lack of interaction) that have eroded my trust in this dealer, but the "no aftermarket radar with CPO" was something I had never heard of before.
I'll hold back on the name of the Porsche dealer for now, but suffice to say I am not impressed!
The dealer is full of sh*t and idiots ... no issues with having one installed. It's a damn extended warranty, not a colonoscopy.

Thanks STG, appreciate the feedback, I couldn't imagine that was correct, but wanted to verify.... I just can't figure out if they are simply incompetent or intentionally screwing around.
They almost hooked me one last time... Called this morning, said the car was now fully through CPO, had my name on it, and ready for delivery. And the corrected version of the buyers order (and CPO inspection documentation) I've been asking for would finally be at my doorstep this morning.
Fast forward a few hours...
The documents arrived, but they are full of errors. Again.
No CPO inspection report. Again.
Then the final coup de gras for the deal, a double whammy:
Another message. You guessed it, no the car really can't be delivered, still waiting on parts, completion estimate unknown...
They also inadvertently send me an internal repair order showing the PDK was just removed to address some issues, which, of course, they had never mentioned.
The previous GM was a good friend of mine. He moved to a dealership in Denver. Hard to believe this would have happened when he was there. When I went there to check out the car, I didn't recognize anyone there. I'm on the Board of Directors here. My photo is in all the mags on their counters, I've bought cars there, have been to a zillion events there, yet no one had ever heard of me or cared at all. Hmm....
Mike, is the GM you are friends with Shawn Evans, now at Stevinson Porsche? If so, I met him at a PCA event several weeks ago, he seemed like a super nice guy. They sponsored the PCA event and had a new 992 for an unveil. Stevinson is my local dealer and I use them on occasion if I need dealer-only service. Small world...
As a follow up, I sent a short email to the new GM, and he was very responsive. He put me in touch with the new sales manager, who was also very responsive. Both have been there only a few weeks, but they did seem concerned about how things were being handled and wanted to try to improve the situation.
I might be quick to complain when I think I've had a bad customer service experience, but I also want to be fair and report back if efforts are made to fix a situation.
