@LFB Unfortunately I think you have a defective unit. I have coded my 3 vehicles plus 4 others and have had no issues as you describe.
I suggest you ask for a replacement.

I've never had any issues with mine either and I've used to check several cars include 996, 991.2, Range Rover and Mercedes,

Don't feel like you're the only one. When I bought mine it was defective right out of the box, but could be cajoled into working by twisting the heck out of the plastic enclosure. Bad solder joints inside, if I was making a guess. It took a month to get them to send me another. So I wouldn't be surprised to hear someone having intermittent connection problems, as those could well be a sign of hardware problems.

But it was inexpensive so I'm not getting too worked up about it. Frankly, time and aggravation getting them to send me a replacement nearly made me just give up and order a fresh one instead of the back and forth.

I wouldn't discourage anyone else from getting one, as it does work... when it works.

Just received my unit. Have read all the posts in the thread. Questions:
the last paragraph in the description of the unit states-
-【FCA AutoAuth Access】Register with Auto-Auth to enable Thinkdiag to communicate with the FCA SGW Authentication System and bypass the SGM, so as to perform diagnostics and bi-directionals without using a bypass cable. But currently using this function needs to be paid For FCA account, you can choose to use it or not. Or you can use 12+8 bypass adapter cable to diagnose.

Is this applicable? Since no one mentions it, I assume not.

Question is asked what folks will do after the one year free period? I don't see that as an issue as I expect to do all my coding well before that.

My wife's Alfa Romeo Stelvio requires that SGW bypass to do just about anything (not very DIY friendly). Shouldn't apply to a Porsche (AFAIK).

FCA stands for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and an FCA certified shop are the ones you can guarantee a proper repair on those brands of vehicles. The brands included, but are not limited to Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Ram, Alfa Romeo, and and still others.

Hopefully Porsche never opts to join this group. But the more "right to repair" loses the more we may see manufacturers go this route.

This may be buried somewhere in this thread, but here's the vehicle coverage listing to include which functions and equipment is supported: https://h5.thinkcar.com/coverage/all

Will start coding soon. Is it OK to use Thinkdiag while battery is hooked up to a maintainer? Thinking getting constant power without fear of draining battery is a good thing.

Related question. Using the Durametric, it advises keeping the flashers on to keep the car awake. Needed the same with the Thinkdiag?

Yes, I killed my wife’s civic when I wasn’t using mine (and the car wasn’t running). Learned that lesson.

I have a 20A charger that pulls ~340W off the wall (not just maintainer) and with it I could watch my battery voltage drop slowly on the MFD over 30-40 minutes worth of screwing around coding: 12.9 - 12.8 - 12.7 - 12.6. That's with all extra loads turned off. Not horrible but it wasn't quite keeping up either.

Battery is a full size Group 49 AGM that's about 2 years old.

The Porsche service manual recommends at least a 40A charger when coding or working with PIWIS for any decent amount of time (ie one of the workshop rolling cart chargers).

Ugh. Sounds like you need to speed code.

A note on coding Comfort Windows on a 2015 Turbo S. I followed the instructions, and came up with some differences. I'm running v3.0.2 app on my phone.

1. I do not have "True" as a choice, only "Yes" and "No."
2. In the 4 step process, I do not have/see #3 ("Coding value--Comfort functions--Comfort functions via for lock")
3. In the 4 step process, my #4 is in Coding value 2

I wrote code nonetheless, and it works. Might I have an issue with these differences?

(BTW, first tried coding with my Samsung S8+ tablet, Android 14. Did not work.)

So I coded my car today, including:

1. Window closing when locking door
2. Illumination of chrono clock
3. Driver seat moves further back when turning off ignition and opening door, and, most important,
4. GT3 steering.

The one thing on the list I could not do was code being able to unlock frunk without unlocking the doors. It is included in the PDF (#17), but cannot find it on Thinkgdiag. Anyone able to code this one?

What did the Illumination of the Chrono Clock do? and where did you find it?
