A little followup. I was inundated with offers from around the country. I ended up selling both my 911 and Cayenne as a package to a wholesaler in NY who then turned around and sold it to the Porsche dealer in PA. The silver Cayenne S listed at the dealer was part of the deal.

I think the dealer is asking $12-14k above market on the 911 and $4-8k above market on the Cayenne.

Your approach seems to be along the same lines as me. Sometimes less hassle is worth FAR more than a couple of $$$$.

Even when i contemplated selling my .1 GTS, it would have been directly to a dealer/wholesaler. Painless transaction is worth at least $5K

Good for you. I think you got all the money for the .1 911, personally - assuming it went for close to asking price.

On amore macro level, it also looks like a peak has been reached and stuff is not moving anywhere near as fast as before. Lots of cars sitting at astronomical asking prices.

100% agree. The funny thing is everything is so tied together. I’m considering buying a house at this time too and with house prices it’s exactly the same situation. Don’t know why I find that surprising because both must be due to the same market forces…

I purchased my new car for 20% off as it was sitting on the lot 2 years ago. Now I have a cash offer for almost MSRP (trade same amount with tax savings). Did not think the 991.2 would ever appreciate, but the market is nuts. Spoke to reputable dealer that sells nothing but Porsche and exotics, and they feel the bar might be set and we are not going back to old values. That would be be even more crazy.

Interesting. I wonder, though, how much of an agenda the dealer may have in toting that view. Only time will tell….

Once new car supply normalizes and demand is met there is no way prices will stay where they are now.

I know of two dealer cars that sold for their asking above Msrp that were 15/16's. This one went over msrp on BAT. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...arrera-gts-17/

Common denominator on all the cars was manual tranny gts n/a versions.

That may take up to a year though. Another simple mechanism may be to unanimously abstain from buying until they fall back to a “reasonable” level. But the reality is that if one can afford it, the question of whether or not they should buy a car becomes more of a mute point…

Sorry if I'm displaying my ignorance, but how did you find this wholesaler? I have an almost new 718 GT4 and a 2019 low mileage 911--both manny tranny--that I would just like to sell at a good price and get it over with. Both wonderful cars, by the way.

God bless,
TT

Even a shave and a haircut is now seven bits, when it used to be only two. Crazy times.

"Two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar. " Wow, a shave and haircut for $0.875 sounds pretty good to me!!

Someone recently offered list price for my (almost) four year old manual GTS. If I didn't really like the car and replacement cost wasn't so high, I might have considered it.

He found me! I listed the 911 on here and CarGurus. I said I also had a Cayenne and he said he would buy it too.

I’m beginning to think this won’t happen as these automakers are forced to sell cars people don’t want.
