This is a good point. I priced a base 992 Carrera configured as close as possible to my current base 2019 991.2 Carrera. It was ~$10,000 more than the MSRP of my current car and wasn't available with a manual transmission. It's also larger and, in my view, not as nice looking, inside and out. I'm told, though, that it sounds better. The least expensive 992 Carrera (an S) with a manual transmission, configured comparably to my base 991.2 Carrera costs ~$25,000 more.

God bless,
TT

A similarly equipped 992 GTS is ~$20k more than my '18 GTS. With only 23 more HP I don't think I'll be switching-up any time soon.
Now, if they had gone with the 4 liter NA engine...

Wait until the 992.2 come out and than buy a 992.1....
ive done this for three generations , always bought one gen back and let someone else take the hit.
I’ve owned a 997.2 a 991.1 and now a 991.2 S’s
except the 997.2 was a 4s

And yet you are here with a base 991.2... perhaps you should go to the 992 forum?

Sorry my math was off, since the 991.1 was made till 2016 car model it’s 5 years old tech. I guess I’ll go drive my 3.8L flat six that puts out 430+ hp naturally and cry about how that’s not advanced enough as the pdk shifts it faster than I can blink my eye.
Yeah, I’ve owned eight Porsches going back to ‘78, including a 991.1 S specced very similarly to mrdrdurdr’s car (save for color and transmission) that started this discussion, but I don’t know what I’m talking about…

I think the words you’re searching for is that someone has a different opinion about the value of your car on a discussion forum thread about car values and that makes you butthurt. It’s a discussion forum, and a thread about crazy prices. Take a laxative and don’t take everything so personal.

I hope he gets every dollar he’s asking for it, but I think it’s unlikely. But the marketplace is a great place for comedy these days.

I'm in a similar boat. Was starting with a lower budget but have been somewhat underwhelmed by what that can buy with run-up in prices. It's hard to wait but my head tells me that's the smart move, or you may end up eating that 10-20% premium down the road. With the increase in used prices I've actually started thinking about ordering a new 992 base. I think it has plenty of performance, could pick out some options and get a new car under warranty. Would definitely have to pony up more cash though, and honestly would really want to get ~5% off MSRP to get what I want which would also mean waiting again for more favorable market conditions. So don't know what I'll end up doing, likely keep monitoring the market and see if something good comes up while considering the 992 route.

have you looked back at the 997? no matter how crazy the market, a 12-15 year old 911 is going to be the best deal and life is short.

That was my starting point. Then it snowballed. Because for just a little more, you can get a 991.1. And for a little more than that, you can get a 991.1S. And for just a little more than that...

The smart move would have been to wait, i agree 100%. I have never been known for my patience.

Haha, yeah that sounds right. I'm still considering everything from 997.2 up to a 992. I drove a 997.1 and the interior just felt a little old to me. Part of me says just get the cheaper car and you can always upgrade down the road, but another part wants the latest that I can afford. I tell myself you can probably get a lot of the fun for a lot less money with a 997.2 or a 991.1 (although nice examples of both of those aren't that cheap either), but then I also end up looking at 991.2 4Ss and playing with the configurator...

It's not just 991s... Our neighbor works at an Audi dealership - he told me they have very few new cars on the floor and nothing that lasts the day on the used car lot. The day !!! It's so bad he asked me point blank if we would sell my wife's Q7 back to them so they would have something to sell. He could offer $5K over their usual trade in... (zero reason for us to do that though)
