not gonna lie, I'd trade my 991.2 T for a GTS 4.0 in a heartbeat in this market if I could find an allocation

I agree, going through the same process in Canada. Prices are 15-20% more than they should be.

Are these guys smoking crack or is this 2016 CC GTS really worth more than $200k?!? I can't even imagine paying anything close to this price for this car. But that's just me....

They only made 60 of these special edition club coupes, so yeah I think the price is actually fair.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a1...-porsche-club/

Sure af is a stunning car. It's a stretch at that price considering what else you could get for that, but I imagine someone will pay for it because it is truly rare.

Edit: I actually read the article in the first link I posted (yes, after I posted it....), and it was for the 2012 club coupe. Special green color and interior bits; this one clearly doesn't fit that description.

Apparently the club coupe was revisited in 2015 with the 2016 MY GTS, which is this example: https://www.motortrend.com/news/pors...ub-of-america/

So... it's still rare but maybe not as rare as I initially thought because they did in 2012 and 2015, at least. And while the first 2012 club coupe had a retail for north of $175k, this one's MSRP was $137k.

I see the reasoning behind the crazy pricing, but now I'm less convinced it's worth it. How many more "super rare" versions were there, that were basically just a few cherry-picked options and special PTS color?

So I revise my statement, and there is a strong indication that crack has been smoked.

Absolutely. It's gonna take two hits on the crack pipe for someone to pay that price for that car. Most overrated 'special' Porsche, except for that sticker kit 'Endurance Racing Edition' mess.

Kids change your perspective and a 911's value today is a good starter for a college fund - put it in a 529 account and pick the right stocks and just maybe in 18 years, it could cover a year of tuition at an in-state school at the rate it's going

911 is a great car, arguably one of the best - but it's just a car, and now is the time to sell if you are inclined and the money could be put to better use elsewhere. I have been fence-sitting for a while now on my Carrera T - car is paid off and sometimes I look at it and see my dream car and a fun toy, and other times I look at it and see a stack of $110k cash and ask myself "why is all this cash just sitting here in my garage not working for me?" - and my wife just got a newish 971 Panamera e-hybrid (so I see two big cash piles now).

Ha, I found the car and got a good deal on it (in light of the current market) - $71k ($50k off sticker). I can live with that. Happy wife...

I think this is a perfect example of dealers just throwing numbers at a wall and seeing what sticks. They can afford to sit on the car for a while and hope someone will come along and think it is worth that much.

What comes to my mind for this entire thread and what we have been seeing in the market is a quote from Gordon Gekko:

"This painting here? I bought it ten years ago for sixty thousand dollars, I could sell it today for six hundred. The illusion has become real, and the more real it becomes, the more desperately they want it. Capitalism at it's finest."

IMO dealers have been successful at doing this for 911s, especially GT cars, for months now. It's to the point that at least for GT cars I question whether used GT car prices will come back down at least to their original MSRPs. Maybe I am just buying into the illusion.

You and I both thinking the same way about 911's in our garages.
I got a 2017 911 S with sports package and sport chrono....desirable options.
I've actually been driving it more to justify it and even did recent HPDE day but cant help to see what its worth now.

It isn't hard to see why some are tempted to sell right now, but…

…besides the obvious "what else?" question, there's the cost of moving from one car to the next. I had a 911 SC that went through something like 5-6~ friends in 3~ years. Each of us thought it was "the perfect 911" yet nobody held onto it. One thing is for sure: The DMV and CA sure loved that SC.

I've had my 914 for 31 years now, and sometimes wonder what sticking with it has saved me in terms of sales tax/depreciation/sorting vs moving from one car to the next. I don't want to think about what I've spent on a succession of "pretty good" daily drivers over the last 20~ years, but the good news is the 991.2 is the first car in a long time that has me thinking it might be a keeper. And I could see where the cost of finding a replacement (through a series of replacements) would outweigh any short-term upside…
