That unit is more or less as deep as the PCM, so that's an easy way to tell. I can't find any pics showing the depth on the website

@ratt359 - is your CHSTEK unit the same depth as the Erisin?
Yes - need to be a little careful here...

The CHSTEK that I own for my 991.1 has dimensions as below, to match the dimensions of my PCM 3.1. Screen is 4:3 ratio (1024x768).

There are similar looking units (same styling/buttons) with a shallower screen depth to fit other Porsche models.

Just returned from a longer drive with my CHSTEK and couldn't be happier:
  • Magic Earth is just brilliant for nav, with offline maps, natural voice, speed cams etc. etc. Won't be using Google Maps again!
  • Magic Earth can be set as default nav map in Settings and accessed via NAV button
  • NAV button then toggles between Magic Earth and last used screen (e.g. CarPlay audio)
  • Screen is bright enough for a sunny day and can be seen clearly through polarised sunglasses. Brightness can be altered quickly using the CAR button (??) - three pre-set brightness settings
  • VLC is great for a local music library and the unit accepts most music formats, even FLAC and Hi-Res
That crappy PCM 3.1 feels like a distant memory...

It's the front to back dimensions I was thinking of. Is your unit more or less the same depth as the PCM? The Owtosin is very similar to the PCM and this has caused a lot of installation issues over on that other thread. One of the big benefits of the Erisin-style units, IMO, is that it is very shallow. making it an easier fit than the PCM it replaces.

This is the Owtosin - does yours look like this, or like the Erisin?

No, very shallow, like the Erisin. Leaves loads of space behind for cables etc.

Excellent! Thanks. The fascia looks very similar to the Owtosin, but thankfully it is a shallow unit. Best of both worlds then. Just checking out that Magic Earth app. I thought I'd tried every nav program on the planet but that is one I missed! I normally use Waze, keeping TomTom as a backup in case of no internet connection.

@ratt359 I am liking Magic Earth! I'll try it out in my next drive. Especially nice to have so many different map design choices too.And cycle maps too! Showing wind speed and direction as well! Amazing. The most important thing for me in a nav app is traffic cameras, so I'll need to give those a good test before committing. That's the main reason I use Waze, for its terrific warnings along the route.

That is a worthwhile benefit in itself. In my Panamera I have no problems at all seeing the screen when wearing my Serengeti polaroids. However, in the Cayman, all I see is a black screen. CHSTEK have obviously gone for a different orientation which means you can wear your polaroids AND see the screen - good call. I almost always drive in polaroids to cut down on road glare and even glare from inside the cockpit. If the Cayman was mine, this alone would be a good enough reason to swap units, but my wife isn't troubled by this as she wears 'ordinary' sunglasses (despite my nagging!).

Just tried holding down the rear window heater button as suggested by @ZedZed but the rear camera doesn't switch on in my 991.1

I wonder if it's a Cayman thing then? Or maybe more likely specific to my HU (it's not an Erisin remember)?

Well I jumped on the CHSTEK bandwagon too! I ordered the 7862 8G+128G. I'm looking forward to that install document that was mentioned above!

I think CHSTEK might have had a bit of a surge in orders for this particular head unit - I just messaged them for an update on dispatch and this is what they replied

Excellent, that's good news for you!

At least I have my Erisin to 'get by' until the new one arrives

Ahhh, seems the CHSTEK has the option for wired carplay...
