Self-install is the plan and apparently doable from the threads. Going into my 981 Boxster with a 991.1S engine in it. Seemed like the safest bet for CarPlay on a PCM unit. New-to-me 991S Boxster is in pull-me-over-yellow and I can't see Waze without my reading glasses. LOL.

Is there a preferred way to run the line from a rear camera to the front. I bought a wireless camera and it only works in my garage and about 10 feet from it then it just turns into a complete static, this doesn’t work so I need to hardwire it somehow.

I also tried the wireless thing, it was garage. The signal would cut out all the time.
You run it down the passenger side of the car, take out the passenger seat, and plastic door sills, then feed the cable down the side.
I pushed it under the rear side panel without removing any there. Then remove the rear shelf, run it under that, and there are a couple of rubber grommets.
Pull out one, and runt he cable through that to the rear. I pulled it up into the rear tail light, and that is where it's connected.
That way when the bumper is pulled off, you will see the camera wire and disconnect it when you pull out the tail lights.

not sure if these pictures will show up or not, but I used the sound tube thingie from the engine bay to the cabin and then routed it down the passenger side. Mine is a 2015 991.1 S btw.

Hello Mikker,

I was wondering if you ever found an installer in Los Angeles? I’m thinking about this upgrade and would love to find someone who is experienced with this kit. Thanks.

I'm currently doing this install right now. Yesterday was running the cable for the camera (PITA) and today is installing the upgraded PCM. I'm about to start connecting everything up and test it in a few minutes, but I ran into a situation early this morning...

I have a 2012.5 C2S Cab. I bought the camera that Nick sells with the kit (rear camera attached to the license plate light assembly). The problem is...the new light/camera is WAY brighter than the OEM light on the other side of the license plate.

Does anyone have a source for JUST a replacement light that would be closer to the intensity/brightness of the newer unit? I thought "Just order another one and take the camera off", but that was a painfully long wait from China. I'd like to find something I can receive in a few days.

Thanks!

I've just lived with the huge mismatch in the plate lights but I'd certainly swap my factory one out as well if someone comes across a solution

I'm thinking about trying some cheap window tint to see if I can "tame" the camera light down.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea actually. I'll try the same!

Few questions for anyone who has the Joyauto CarPlay deal installed.

I installed mine over the weekend, all works BUT to enable wireless I have to go through the menu, select my phone and hit connect. Is this normal? I thought it just connected once it recognized your phone..

This leads to my second question, since the wireless works is the USB wire, that's connected to the device really needed? I wired the USB to the passenger side and can put in the glove box, it's a tight squeeze though. My thought, if it's not necessary just undo it and use the USB that's built into the glove box if I need to charge the phone.

Any input is appreciated.

I had to pair my phone with the unit once, and now it automatically gets picked up every time I start the car with my phone on me. So having to connect it every time is not normal, I believe. I wish I could give some more details, but I didn't install it myself.

Just did this install, haven’t read thru this whole 76 page thread so I apologize but everything installed fine but when I went to turn the system on for the first time, I get a blank screen with a “+” in the top left of the screen and that is all!

if I unplug the power cable on the back of the joyauto box then the screen comes on and shows the tuner.

any ideas??

Click on the plus, it's a configuration process. After you click on the plus another plus will come up on a different corner, click on it too. After a few rounds of doing that you should be good to go.

For reference check this out (minute 16):
