@q8linux well done looks great. Could you please let me know where you got the phone mount that is installed in the vents in your picture? Looks like a great solution for the phone. Thanks.

Hey Chuck - how's it going? You considering this CHSTEK unit? Seems to tick every box.

Just, curious as to why anyone would want a phone mount if you've gone to all the trouble to upgrade to wireless CarPlay/Android Auto? Mine stays in the glove box charging, and everything I might want to use while driving is in a CarPlay app.

I was thrilled to be able to lose my phone hanging there, once I had Mr12Volt installed.

Hi ZedZed. Very busy these days but overall going well.

Just catching-up with this thread as I have been unable for the past few weeks. Indeed, from what I can see, the CHSTEK is a very nice upgrade from the Erisin HU. And I expect more units coming to market as the vendors realize that there is a good niche demand 8<) For the time being, I will stay with my Erisin HU as it meets my needs but, if I had to start from scratch, I certainly will go with the CHSTEK.
Really happy to see the enthusiasm in this thread. Keep going.

I give you a hint: some people may have two cars and one is so lightly used that a phone does the trick. No need for a new HU or a box stuck under the steering wheel

I totally get that. Before I installed Mr12Volt in my 991.1, and before CarPlay, my phone was hang off the dash of every vehicle we had.

However, I was asking a person who had just installed a new HU with wireless CarPlay/Android Auto and was looking for new phone mount recommendations for his 911.

And that was a fair question. As I triggered your question, my answer is about my specific situation that drove my question about the phone mount.

Thanks q8linux. I like this mount and I will use it for my car without the Erisin HU. My current phone mount is in the center console and this one is in a better line of sight.

For me.... when I run some apps like Waze... I really like that the map shows in the PCM screen and then have the 6.7inch phone as a convenient second screen showing the street by street direction. Also, on long highway trips, good to have the phone to see other apps without it blocking my view of the real-time navigation map. For me, the value of the Mr12Volt/others is mostly in the addition of a rear view camera... and a being able to dedicate the main screen for app navigation tools -- leaving the phone available for other apps.
I actually sometimes wonder the opposite... why are some folks going through all of the effort to completely change out the OEM PCM screen unless you need to watch HD movies on them (vs a 6.7inch high res upgradeable phone or ipad). However, understand that the additional phone mount may be an eyesore for some. If you hate that, wait until you see the extra Kaizen cup holder I also installed so I can safely drive with a XL caffeinated big gulp on long drives... versus whatever that dashboard "cup holder" is .

Does anyone know if the CHSTEK unit supports 1080p backup camera? I need to install an aftermarket camera on my Cayenne and I discovered that I can actually get cayenne mounts so there is no modifying the stock system. Just remove the old and replace. There are two cameras available - either 720p or 1080p at 170 degree viewing. I would obviously go for the 1080 if the HU can support it.

I have done three of those installs and on all three occasions I had to remove the PCM after the first shot to fix a problem - usually the ribbon cables not properly seated. It can be very fiddly. The aftermarket head unit approach is much easier to install as you have discovered. You also benefit from a bigger screen, a better quality screen, better resolution and the ability to add pretty much every app from the Play Store if you so wish, plus CarPlay or Android Auto if that is your preference. Plus, these units usually work out cheaper than the add-on board solutions!

The only benefit I can see for the solutions using an additional board is that the original look of the car is totally retained. On the downside of that, the PCM has been opened up and non-standard parts fitted. With the CHSTEK and similar units. the PCM is not touched and so it can be put back at any time to revert to stock.

Both approaches have their supporters. I am firmly in the aftermarket HU camp. I'd recommend anyone who wants to use the additional board solution to consider professional fitting.
100% agreed, until today, the CHSTEK unit is the only one that had all the things I wanted, (**** for volume, OEM look fit, finish and feel) and 100% plug and play.

Wish I considered this before destroying my perfectly good PCM trying to fit a PCB board. Now there is a hole in my dash until I get the new HU installed.

I'm delighted that the CHSTEK is proving a hit... and am even more delighted to announce the release of the long promised guide!

Huge shout out to pioneers @ZedZed and @andy2111 who, aside from giving up so much of their time to assist those on this thread (including me), were also instrumental in pulling this all together.

PLEASE NOTE: the guide and the other materials within remain a work in progress. The aim is to perfect these over time with your valuable input and suggestions.

We hope it proves useful and encourages even more owners to evolve their in-car experience!
