Buy one. In the scheme of things, they aren't expensive. And they even fit in tight spaces. My ceiling is 9 feet after I extend into the rafters. You'll thank yourself again and again!!!

Yeah, I should and no excuse to not have one yet. I have an 1800 sq ft. barn w/ HVAC and 16 ft ceilings. It used to house our diesel pusher motorcoach, which we sold last year.

OK, I'm envious!!!!! Seriously, just get a lift. You've got room so you have no excuse. Thank me later 😀

PS ... mine has the hydraulic ram at the top so there's no cable on the floor. This makes it a lot nicer. Since you have space, go wider and higher.

And pics or it never happened.

I wish I had a storage garage like that when I owned a diesel pusher! I sold mine last month.

liftbars (liftbars.com) work well in confined spaces, are much cheaper than a lift, don’t take up room when you’re not using them, and you can use them anywhere with a good flat surface.

I have 6 sets. I do all my work on them including pulling engines (from 928s.)

Finished an oil/filter change, installed LN Engineering magnetic drain plug, replaced engine air filter, cabin filters, hood struts, serpentine drive belt, and hydraulic tensioner.

Now that is a lift to lust after!!!

Wait, what are you doing with that 2×4? At first look, I thought you had buried hydraulic rams.

And spark plugs?

Also, why’s the exhaust off?

Well, as it turns out, it's much easier (maybe required?) to remove the exhaust and engine support bracket to access the hydraulic tensioner. If it wasn't required, it definitely made access much easier, including then installing the new belt and really wasn't too much of a PITA considering the predicted struggle I would have had otherwise.

Plugs were replaced not that long ago by the PO, so no plugs this go around.

Indeed, that is a lift to lust after. What kind is it?

Very clever and great for tire changes, brake work, etc. However, I hate working lying down underneath a car, but they are a great alternative for a lot of folks.

And I cannot work under lifts for more than a minute or four.

My shop has in-ground radiant so, in the winter next to the floor is very cozy.

WSM says to remove the y-pipe assembly. It has some very specific directions on how to bend and twist the belt to clear the exhaust and other brackets.

I just did the belt on my wife’s 991S. The only hard part was getting the spacer back in for the 155mm (IIRC) rear bolt.

My TT will get new belt (etc.) next Spring. And PDCC bottle and other bits that are on the schedule.

Now that's a great point . . . your solution is much better for napping and relaxation.
