From all I've read here and from public comments by Porsche officials, I highly doubt the Touring model represents a limited edition -- that would be making the same mistake they've already acknowledged with the limited run of the 911R. It's an option package for customers, nothing more, nothing less.

In other words, I'm buying 100% of what Chris3963 is selling...

'Anniversary' 911 are usually 'trimmed up' mainstream models, and the Sport Classic was the same, but with some nice additional design touches. The 'R' was very special, and the anticipation is that the, so called, Touring will be a very close in concept.

Anyway, only a month and we should know exactly.

The Sport Classic featured a bubble top, not imported to USA, VERY limited at 250 units, new seats, duck tail, Fuchs-style wheels (that put the 50th wheels to shame), MT only, PCCBs standard. Putting it in the category of "trimmed up" doesn't do justice to how appealing this car is.

I've seen one in the metal and it's the best looking 997 made IMO.

My favourite 997. Sadly, unobtainable in the US.

True about prior Sport Classic. That was also true about the last Speedster. However, I have it from good source that next Speedster, to be announced later this year also, will in fact be the equivalent of a 911 R convertible. That is, a GT3.2 engine, manual transmission, convertible. Only 356 will be made, and only a limited number of 918 VIPs will get them.

Long story short, just because a special model used to a special edition of the Carrera S or GTS, as in the last Sport Classic, last Speedster, and both the 50th and 40th anniversary 911's, doesn't mean Porsche won't change things up moving forward.

In fact, it seems to e more likely than ever for Porsche to start using a version of the GT3.2 engine in more special models since these short run special editions may be seen to be much less attractive with a version of the 3.0 turbo motor used in lesser 911's.

Bingo... naturally aspirated is the new "special" and it will be used to denote a premium sports car for Porsche. Let's not forget the comment AP made when he said that the engine made more power than the 500hp on the dyno. They are going to make all different rpm levels of this engine and base price and exclusivity on that one metric... the aura of the GT3 as a collector car will hopefully subside, as other cars inherit its engine.. and speedsters and other special versions will take its place in the garage queen world. And thank god for that...

Can't wait for this touring-sportclassic whatever car with the chrome windows.. my order is locked but I'm still curious to see what kind of pretty bells and whistle details they add to it.

My holy grail looks like this.. naturally aspirated, big ol' spoiler AND the chrome window/old school Fuchs wheels/ chrome headlight trim, old school look.. but doubt that will ever be an offered combo again

Fuchs limit brake cooling a bit unfortunately, and I personally prefer to go without the Cup wing and splitter(or any wing for that matter). Otherwise I completely agree, and for pure aesthetics I'd take the Fuchs too...

I know the Sport Classic well as a friend of mine has one....and I think it is the best looking Porsche that has ever been made....but even with the bubble roof....it is still just a tarted up Carrera S. It was a Porsche Exclusive car just like the recent Turbo S not a Motorsport car.

My 78SC was styled just like that, except for a whale tail on the back. Such a great look.

Just curious : If your order hadn't locked, would you have canceled and rolled the dice on a Sport Classic/Speedster or just waited to option the Touring package expected in Sept?

As is true for all the 911s, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and in the case of the 997 Sport Classic, it's far more than a runway model with a boob job.

Here's another photo -- can't find the better images I captured years ago.

a bit of a sore subject for me: multiple construction delays

supposedly there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I am promised end of September "move-in" date.

finger crossed...
