It's confirmed. At the launch party of the GT3 to which only confirmed owners of the new GT3 were invited, 3 separate people from Porsche in three separate conversations, all confirmed to me that it was coming and that package details would be released soon.

Will it have the 4.0 motor? If so it would dull the luster of the gt3 badge..

It's a wingless GT3...but as many others have asked, why all the fuss?
Porsche have had touring models of RSs in the past. Even the venerable 2.7 RS and 964 RS's came in a touring version. Indeed I was only looking a very rare touring version of the 964 RS a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely. Sofa seats, regular door cards, air con, power steering...it was highly desirable.

Maybe they will only build 5 of them and keep the purists and speculators happy. That's the big decision for Porsche marketing, how few to built and who to sell them to.

991.2 GT3 or the Touring? One of each, surely.

I just drove a 964RS yesterday for the first time and it's a fantastic car.
I'm young and fit and love the 964 buckets, same seats as my 993 GT2.
Was offered a Canadian touring 964RS. No interest- to me it's "real RS" or nothing.

Because of collector status or the way it drives?

It adds up to a ton more confidence.
Also, I don't like sunroofs or radios in an RS if avoidable.
I know one guy with a handful of them and he has a variety of specs. Good for him. If I could only do one, it would be buckets and hardcore.

How I'll view it will depend what comes in the touring package.
Long term taking things out to get the most minimalist and distilled driving experience possible is likely best for value, even if it means deleting "must haves" like AC. Witness RS America current prices for what was a cheaper, decontented C2.
My personal preference would be a wing delete with a separate rear seat option and folding buckets. That would let you spec a lower profile car with better rear visibility without compromising practicality (use of the rear, seats or no) or performance until you get to triple digits. That combination of relative subtlety, everyday usability, driving experience and world class performance is one of the main attractions to Porsche as brand, and that would be a new high point in that regard (along with the R). I'd personally skip the rear seats and wing...

Bucket seats to me make a huge difference. Once you are driving above 6/10ths the sofa seats don't hold me in very well. That little bit of extra "bolted to the car feel" makes an incremental difference around every corner in the communication between tires and the driver.
