The trend will continue to be tight access to NA models, and relatively easier access to any turbo models. I don't see a turbo 992 carrera reducing demand for an "older" 991.2 gt3 or even gt4. I agree that speedster and other special NA models will reduce the GT3 pressure... IF, they make enough of them.. anything in limited numbers will just increase the hoarding of special models on the part of those with access to them, and leave those without special access still waiting.

I do not expect the 992 Carrera to tempt GT owners. Once the 991 is officially old news, I expect some on lists to skip the 991.2 GT models in 2018-2019 and hold out for the 992 GT models.

I think the suggestion is that when the new body style becomes "real" for people, some will hold off on .2 models as they dont want to be stuck with the "old" body style. ie they will wait to buy a 992.1 GT3 rather than a 991.2 model.

If history is any indicator, the next GT 3 after the 991.2 is likely to be a 2022 MY available in the U.S. sometime late in 2021. There is no guarantee this will be a NA engine or that a manual gearbox will be offered. The industry is rapidly evolving to meet tighter federal standards as evidenced by the growing number of smaller displacement turbo engines, PHEVs and full electric sports cars currently being developed. This is a pivotal time in the evolution of the 911 GT cars and waiting for what's next is not always wise.

This is what they said before 991.1 GT3. No one knows.

With EVs in the pipeline combined with CAFE potentially being rolled back, I would bet the GT models are safe from turbos for another generation. But that's a different discussion.

My point was the 991 will soon be an older generation and, along with the coming influx of special models, that will naturally dampen the current GT3 enthusiasm somewhat. Anyway, that, too is off the topic.

You're on!

Even if it's Geneva 2018 for MY 2019, rumors will be circulating and clear images will be seen, so I stand by my point.

It won't be until model year 2020. That's our bet then?

LOL,

I think C.J. as the owner of a Porsche dealership and a racing team, likely has more intel on when the next all new 911 model is coming out, than anyone else on this thread.

They still gotta sell the GT2RS, .2GT3RS, and .2GT4 before the 992 comes.

The new 911s are shown at the Frankfurt event which is every other odd year. The 992 will most likely not be at this year's show but rather at the 2019 show as a 2020 model. I would think Frankfurt this year would be the GT2RS and possibly the GT3 w/ the Touring package if it does indeed exist. I would expect the .2 RS next year at Geneva. 718 GTSs may debut at the LA show in 11/17. All this is based on previous Porsche auto show debuts of these models.

And when do you think they debut the .2GT4? In Geneva along with the .2GT3RS?

I think that's a tough one to predict because we don't yet know the poweplant with any certainty. If it's an updated 4 turbo I'd say LA with the GTS, but a detuned GT3 engine is a much more significant upmarket model and could be at Frankfurt alongside GT2 RS or at Geneva with the .2 RS. Seem reasonable?
