I feel like I'm in the minority that doesn't care for ring times and speed....

I'm a simpleton; give me three paddles, NA, light weight, engaging car with a Porsche badge and STICKERS

Furthermore, expect the GT2 RS to be 7:00 or less, but more than the 6:57 of the 918 Spyder.
If they do make a 991.2 GT3RS, by the time it comes out 7:10 at the ring will be slow lol

Also the GT2 will probably be faster than the 918 (a 2014 car). If a TTS can do 7:18, a GT2 with ~90 more HP and more torque, better aero, lighter, better tires, etc. will probably be able to beat a 918. Hell, the 10 year old 997 GT2 lapped at 7:18!

Lap times are fun to compare since they are much more objective than engagement / feel etc. It's also an indicator of technical and engineering prowess which I am in to. I'm sure most Porsche / GT owners love their cars for much more than lap times, too but just something else to talk about.

All good. But meaningless until I have a confirmed, configurable allocation. We'll see how hard that is this round.

Admittedly, I'm no expert on ring times, but aren't ring times almost incomparable due to the nature of the ring? Wouldn't lap times on a modern track with plenty of "safe spaces", i.e., generous runoff with lots of kitty litter between you and a $250k disaster and or death be a more reliable measure of track ability? I just watched the in car youtube of the recent sub 7 Lambo lap and it reaffirmed my suspicion that ring times are only 2/3 vehicle and driver ability with the remaining third of the equation lurking in the driver's pants.

There's a reason there hasn't been an F1 race there in decades. I get sweaty palms lapping the ring on my freakin' Xbox.

If i had to choose lapping the ring in any vechicle fast or slow or getting the new gt3, doubtless lapping the ring is my choice. Its just the best feeling.
Obviously plenty here like p badges, bucket seats and the rest and no plan to ever track these cars made for tracking, a little shame imo why not get the carrera s or 4s, fast look nice etc. Sorry for OT.

GT2RS and GT3RS are completely different products with different base customers. I will never buy a GT2RS (presented somewhere in summer this year) because turbos... even same price tag as GT3RS (we know it will never be the case)
I can't remember that far back. I'm happy if I remember how to get home at night. I do remember that 991GT3 began with 2014 model announced in 2013? Don't remember when 991RS announced but it was mid '15 delievery when that began.

It just seems that PAG is up against it time wise if history is an indicator as to when they put out new generations i.e. 992 and what should be the expected horizion wise while they are trying to push out the 991.2GT3 (March '17 debut), 991.2GT2RS (late '17 announcment) and now GT4RS before (don't know when announcement) the 992 washes ashore which we all expect by 2019/20. Will they get to a .2GT3RS before 992's hit? Beats me but it doesn't seem like it. No word or hint of a .2GT3RS so far and they seem very busy with alot on the GT plate. All quiet on the next GT3RS western front.

I believe the 911 GT cars will be tturbo after the .2GT3 if they want to compete.

PA has said there wont be hybrid in 991 chassis. Not enough room. Def being considered in 992.

From EVO:

http://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/911-gt3...manual-gearbox

The 4-litre engine will be a development of the motor used in the 911 R and GT3 RS, with an upgraded valve train, 9000rpm redline and a modest power increase over the 493bhp it produced in the R and RS.

Frankel's news writing is fine, but his road testing prose is usually superb.

It is not the same engine.

The 510 bhp quote for the RSR is (1) a projection (2) based on the assumed size of the sonic restrictor (which will vary from race to race and between IMSA and WEC).

Absolutely a sanctioned leak. Within a few weeks we will probably see a line of blacked out but barely camouflaged GT3s photographed somewhere highly public (e.g., San Francisco, LA) with at least one of them being a manual.
Everything here is True Yeah IMO!

Trying to recall a precedent that would have so many cars with the same NA engine, just varying degrees of tune. 991.1 RS, 991.1 R, 991.2 GT3, GT4 RS, maybe 991.2 GT3RS? All ranging from ~450 to 510hp? Seems pretty tight. I guess if any car company can slice it that close PAG can.

Also what about the cost to produce? Maybe a detuned 4l for the GT4RS they don't need the unobtanium crank.
AMG did this extensively with the 6.2 v8. The c63 base version had more than 100hp less than the sls car (obviously the engines weren't identical, but platform was the same and at least 50 of the HP lost in the c63 was available via a tune only).
