^^ yep, u right! However, to be fair to one of them, they still refuse to take deposit due to no info and the other IS taking holding deposit but NOT guaranteeing a car.

Anyways - what is the opinion of fellow believers on timings once it is announced - so you go to showroom, make your order, pay your money and wait..... how long?

I'll try to keep this thread alive since I'm also interested in what Porsche does with the RS. So, just to strike up a bit of conversation since there has been speculation of the msrp now being $200k+ (different thread), why would people feel that the HUGE price difference would be more justified if it comes with a 4.0L engine? So a bigger wing, wider body, magnesium(?) roof, monstrous wheel/tire combo, and a 4.0 would be worthy of a ~50% price increase? Is it because the 997 RS 4.0 was a leap in price over the .2 RS so a similar displacement is more acceptable?

On a completely different note, does anyone think that Porsche will ever jump on the TFT display wagon like so many other manufacturers (Audi, Lamborghini, Dodge, Chevy with the Vette, Lexus with the old LFA, etc.)? I must admit that the TFT does make a car feel more futuristic and cutting edge.

On the other side, yes it's gonna be a long hardship wait.. More supercars will come out, the introduction of Turbo's will make it more challenging for the RS to keep up. The norm is soon becoming +600hp with a multitude of innovations and gadgets and we're still at the 500 level bragging about 4WS..

Porsche just needs to realize it has a niche, within a niche, within a niche with the future of the GT3/RS. In other words, a NA track day weapon. Built like a German footlocker and able to take the abuse that will leave the forced induction, and hybrid buyers gasping for breath, and cool down/charging periods at the track.

With the GT3/RS it doesn't and shouldn't need to chase after and compete with the future 458's & 650S lineage. Leave that to the 960, which will likely be turbocharged.

Porsche would be dumb to abandon this market. We have Z28's, Mustangs, Huracan's and a few others not chasing the eco goal (or finding ways around it) of FI engines.

Based on several conversions within Porsche, seems RS allocations won't be given until mid-summer 15 with landed dates in 1Q16... some possible by end of 15.

I am only speculating.. but I see RS having PDK, 25 more HP, slightly wider rear track, better downforce with adjustable rear wing and a steering wheel with yellow center line and sport buckets as standard. I also imagine MSRP will be $150k (vs $130k for GT3).

+1. Spy photos are out already for 992, so would think 992 GT3's will be announced as MY 2016 when they stop RS production.

It seems there are two schools of thought here. Broadly speaking:

1) launch this year Paris production starting from March next year possible capacity increase and largish price premium

2) launch next March Geneva production start September same capacity engine with more exotic build & aero and more modest price delta.

Of course could be a mix and match from above.

Would seem odd to delay it another 7 months to launch and 12 months to production but as we are learning anything is possible!

The most curious thing is what will happen with the GT3? Makes no sense to stop end of Feb if there will be a gap till RS production in Sept?

If history is an indicator, you will not see face-lifted gt3s (.2/992, whatever) for another 1.5 - 2 years.

From my understanding.. the issues with the '14 GT3 engines caused a 9-month delay.. they had to stop development of RS to fix motor issues.. and now they are trying to safely squeeze another 25 hp from the motor without having future issues. I need to find those 992 photos...

This makes even less sense. Mark2 versions of GT3 rarely happen in the first 12 months of the facelift. MY2016 is September 2015 and seems way too early for a Mark 2 version but stranger things have happened!

The 992 announcement could truly be the cause of the GT3 production pause and RS delay. With Porsche announcing the Targa and pretty much every 911 model facelift over the next few months, it could very well indeed be a skipping of the 991 RS and a serious delay until the 992 RS. Why? Because I'm sure the press and non-Porsche folks would quickly point out the immediate aged look of a 991 RS when all of the other 911 variants at the same auto shows have the facelift.
