What a comment. "One of the best cars ever made" Oh... despite it having engine failure possibilities. Makes so much sense.

I say this owning a .1 GT3.

My warranty is up this Labor Day, which is the day after our next two-day track event at VIR Full course! I bought the car right, almost 2 years ago. I have driven it a few thousand miles on track and off track (I have put about 15K miles on it, changed the oil 6 times and trans/diff fluid 3 times) and its G6 engine is approaching 40K miles. Every time I drive it, I have a smile on my face. Every time I park it I look back and take a good look at it. Awesome car.

Ask your Porsche service advisor to print out the in service date sheet with the specs. It has the warranty start date.

My warranty was up since last December 2023. Still running strong on the E1.

Default CPO

This may seem to be a dumb question, but would a 991.1 GT3 outside of the 10yr engine replacement warranty still be covered if the car is purchased CPO'd from the Porsche dealer? If so, then negotiating for an extra year of CPO to make it 3 years of coverage or just pay outright for it would make sense for peace of mind.

Ironically I just asked this question today at my dealership and I was told "yes, CPO would cover these engine failures and they would replace entire engine under warranty throughout the CPO period". Definitely a good argument for the 3 year CPO term, and I think a boon for dealers as they will scoop up these 991.1 GT3s at a discount and then resell them w/ the CPO warranty at an elevated premium.

Anything such as engine, transmission, or other big non-wear items are covered under Porsche CPO. Those items replaced do not carry the Porsche part 2-year warranty since they were paid through CPO, however, so if your engine blows one month prior to CPO ending, you get a new one, but have no engine warranty anymore after CPO ends since you did not pay out of pocket for the Porsche part. But, you have a G6 then so who cares

Yeah, it is possible and did mine for 2 yr extension and can be extended until the car has 15 years.

4 more months before the engine warranty is over and if anything happens it will cost over $70K for engine replacement. The past 3 months I definitely see more and more 991.1 GT3 selling for around $100-110K range..so value has dropped because of the 10yr warranty is up soon!!

Would you guys still buy a 991.1 GT3 right now?

I am hearing mixed things about all the 2016 RS models not having these same engine issues - but then some of them seem to have G0 serial numbers…so which is true? I think it was Preuninger I heard say they fixed it before the RS 991.1 came out??

I would but only with a G6 engine. This car is the best value for a dual purpose street/track car.

.1 GT3 RS, they all are G0 serials, except if the engine is already replaced.

G0 after 5373 serial is a G6, before that is a G6 except it does not have DLC cams. With lowered rpm, higher oil pressure, more oiling, etc the wear is a lot less, not likely to impact the average owner.

This or Corvette C6 z06. Ironically, they both have their engine issues lol.

So if I was to buy a 991.1 GT3 right now how can I tell if the engine is G6?
