I wish more people were in the military. At 31 and an officer ive met some seriously amazing people, traveled the world, done some cool things, and have been able to afford the toys in my signature line(someone by my Turbo, it’s for sale!)

I think the world would run so much better if people were told to shut the f*ck up and think about something bigger than themselves, if just for a few years.

Agree - i am specifically targeting hiring veterans into my Company. We started this "programmatically" a year or so ago and its working well - so we're planning on more veteran hires and classes in the future.

I had a great conversation with the wife today. We are working on a retirement living will and what we want to leave the kids. they will get everything anyway. We dont really spend money, we live below our means, have some nice thinkgs. but dont go crazy, no crazy home, or fancy / exotic hobbies. I think our cars and boat are the extreme, but not extreme in the world we are in today. a new tahoe is 80k and boat is 60 to 200k, a new mac Imac pro( maxed out) is 10k so 150k for a toy, that we can enjoy, and lose 20 or 30% on is a deal. Its not like we have to keep these things.

best thread on RL - by a long stretch - wonderful and inspirational to read and reflect

stuff that they don't teach in school, but should, for the sake of future generations

I am a finance manager at an Audi dealership (27) and do some investing on the side. I have downtime most mornings so I browse Rennlist and figure out how to waste more money.

Its certainly easy to bash the college model. It isnt what it started out as. I would agree that college is excessively expensive and that it isnt for everyone. I know many folks who made/make a living in a well paying trade. But much of what I learned in college in an aero eng degree program was beneficial and crucial in my career from day one until now, daily understanding the relationships and design of parts and processes in general life. You cant be a test pilot or medical doctor without years of formal college education. But those two guys probably still hire an electrician, plumber, or builder, and maybe a mechanic not to mention the guys that developed the apps they use on their phones, and vice versa. The world goes around because there is a place for each of us. Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out where and what that is. But few of us have it handed to us. You have to just get out there and work before you start to see a place or two you could fit, develop it, and then drive a Porsche. There might be a few things in between.

Agreed, I joined late in life, and thankful that I did. If you ever get to fly into McGuire, PM me. I never have my 911 there, but always have a Golf R handy!

Seems like many doctors/ business owners here. I can only imagine how hard they have worked to come to this far in life. My wife and I are regular job people.
Wife 23yr - Mechanical Engineer in gov. Wanting to be in management next year
Me 26yr - ICU Nurse - seems like there is more to life than just passing gas for career wise. (Realizing after working with COVID)
Hope to own a 981 GT4 or 997 GT3.
Just bought a home in a nice area (hopefully appreciates) and no student loan.
It's just a dream right now but I think I could turn that dream into a realistic dream in about 3 years.
Will update in 3 years lol.

k1wi, yes you are fine and in a very good position, it seems to me. Many people end up with student loans equal to a house they can’t live in, just pay for! I’m a pharmacist/IT analyst (edit medical software) and didn’t get into P-cars until later in life. Between my son and I (he’s an IT programmer/analyst also) we’ve owned a 924, Boxster (2), Cayman and a C4S, all in the past 3 years!
If your goal is GT4 or GT3, I suggest getting a used Boxster or Cayman and drive it daily (I drive the C4S daily). That, along with RL, will familiarize you with the ins and outs of Porsches. Some friends I ride motorcycles with, also own Porsches. Group has a 993, 996.1, 996.2 and a 991.2. All are great fun.
Now I must leave to rip up the B roads ‘round here on my way to join those guys for breakfast.
Cheers,

You’ll get there soon with hard work and a bit of luck, just keep your dreams.
I left my home African country exactly 20 years ago and went to Med school in France. I had a 50$ bike for many years before my first cheap car and truly enjoyed the journey but always kept dreaming of a 911...at age 33 got my first used 911, at 35 my second used 911 and at 39 my new Spyder. Trust yourself and beautiful things will happen to you but never forget your values and the people that care about you

Sounds great, keep imagining, dreaming and doing. It'll come if you can be successful at the doing. I picked up my first 911 in 2012 at 32 and now have a few more.

Good to buy a home, I bought a quality condo in downtown Toronto back in 2007. Fantastic time to buy though was a struggle sometimes because I didn't have my great job that landed in 2011. But financially well worth it when I sold it. Helped jump to the next level in combination with a good job.

Good luck! There is some of this involved for sure.
