They might already know more about us than we know about ourselves!

So, I know we've all worked hard, have some skills, etc., but how much do you all attribute your good position in life to luck? In my case, I do feel that I've been pretty lucky, with a big part of that luck simply being in the US.

I'll bite - I'm not successful, nor drive an RS/R. Just a typical CPA bound to a cubicle.

Parents gave up everything to bring us little ones here for a better life so early on I recognized the sacrifice they had made and vowed never to ask them for a single penny. Was always good with my hands so got my first job at 14 as a bike mechanic and never stopped working since. Got lucky a few times (bought first aircooled pre-bubble with student loans while in university) and busted my *** but made a lot of follow the crowd type decisions, regretted all of them, and am still trying to break out of that mold.

Two biggest obstacles I've encountered is:

1. Having lots of big ideas but no direction for the next steps
2. Being 'good' at many things, but a master in none. Certainly doesn't help narrow down the focus for #1

Like mooty says, work smart, not hard. I've got the work hard down pat, just need to work smart...

This thread is really quite inspiring, thank you for sharing your stories. We've all our own individual journeys so needless to say, I shan't be giving up. Importantly, an RS would make a better picnic table than the current 30+ year old Weissach tail...

33, AD USN pilot. Hoping to be at AA inside a year. Mil may not be the most lucrative, but I can't imagine a better job through my 20s. Wouldn't change a thing.

I work for the government January up until mid June. Then for my two kids until October. The final quarter of the year is designated to test drive various Porsche GT cars. I love my job despite getting raped by Uncle Sam for an extended period of time

Work CT overseas 7 months out of the year. Dangerous career where any day could be your last. So I decided to enjoy every day I can when I’m home and get my dream car, 991.2TTS.

I work DoS and work with those pilots you mentioned. Pretty good gig but planes aren’t the greatest.

Surprised that you have enough disposable income to buy a GT3RS after paying your malpractice insurance.

I love hearing the stories about how some of you are self made by starting your own businesses and then selling them to retire early, you are truly living the dream...congrats to you. I was scared in 2008 when I worked in banking but thankfully transitioned back into bean counting and mixed in some real estate.

Global sales rep. Silicon Valley/FANG/Big Tech. For 25+ years... Old guy. Travel too much. Kids in college. Porsche finally made the one that made me say "if you don't get that, you'll always look back and regret it..."
