Worked in corporate America, was bored.
Started software company, sold it to my partners, did well.
Started 2nd software company, sold it to Snap-on.
Took over a small public company, built it up and sold it to PE.
Continued to built it and brought in another PE firm.
Retired in early 2020 (before Covid).
Got bored, just took over another small public company.

Don’t post much, read a lot…. Always enjoy being here.

This thread is great encouragement for what I want to do next -- founder!

(Up through consulting and now exec. at a midcap health services company. As others, from a real small/nothing town and, being in my late 30s, feel fortunate everyday.)

I've always been fascinated by the intricate dance of assets, and this job allows me to dive deep into the financial realm, making strategic decisions to maximize returns for clients. It's challenging, but the thrill of managing assets and watching them grow is incredibly rewarding. In the meantime, if you're ever considering a career change or want to explore new opportunities, there's a post: What are the Best Online Phlebotomy Training Schools? I think that it could be a fantastic way to broaden your skill set and open up new avenues.

Lovely story, it's really boring to retire if you are used to the fast lane. All the best

Not really. I worked 80 - 100 hours a week in a very fast lane (trauma surgeon then C-Suite health care exec). Retired at 61. Now I have 80 - 100 hours a week of fun in the fast lane. Most days I go to bed not having done everything I wanted to. People with nothing to do in retirement either have no curiosity/imagination, no friends, or both.

i for one am looking forward to retiring, would be nice to do so at an earlier age. Say mid fifties.

Interesting to look back at early posts in this thread, almost 6 years after I started it. Back then, I might have predicted that I'd be retired by now, but it turns out that I'm still in the same line of work, with no plan to retire any time soon. I think AI will have a big impact in my industry, and, having been interested in AI since the 80s, I'd really like to shepherd my company over the next decade in these early years of the AI era.

own a small business designing, selling and installing high end Home Theaters, Home Automation, residential and light commercial AV, networking and surveillance systems. My business isn't how I afford my cars, but it provides a comfortable lifestyle. We've been around for almost 20 years but still requires the bulk of my time. I reg work 60 hour weeks but do get to take time off when i want.
