FourT6and2: That's based on the current information set... We have no idea on what Porsche may or may not have up their sleeve. Also, I've found deposits to have indirect benefits. Discovered two cars (customer abandoned builds) through deposits and a good repertoire with dealers.

I get the whole altruistic thing, if you have the time. It’s great helping others. But imagine several people putting multiple deposits across 5 similar dealerships. Now it looks like all 5 dealers have the first 4 people in the list ready to buy their cars. Meanwhile the 5-10 others may not get a car. But these first 4 customers on the list with 5 deposits across 5 different dealers make it look as if they represent 20 individual customer when its really only 4 customers. That’s artificial demand.

My friend I have to agree. I also had 3 allocations but released each one immediately as soon as I got a better deal. Never held on to more then one deal at a time. The best I could do was 15K in Florida and 20K in Austin. Went with the Austin dealership because build date was the best and it's close to my home.

Dealers love this. Artificially overloaded allocation wait-lists => higher ADM's. This is why almost brand new GT cars sell for MSRP or less in the secondary/used market after all allocations for a model get distributed and the same allocation circus moves onto the next "must have" model. The used car market can't be artificially pumped up with allocation wait-lists.

I wonder what percentage of the 2018 GT3 sales in the US have been sold for MSRP to date?

You'd have to have been on a waiting list and put a small deposit down. Mine is coming in October and I've been on the list for about 2 years and barely got one. It'll be at good 'ol MSRP

Before my 2018 Cayman had no interest in Porsches or cars in general. So did not have the foresight to place my name on any list.

There are dozen of stories in this thread and the other one, of people who put down deposits years ahead only to be told to go **** themselves.

I put down $ 5K, then $ 5K again at lock-in this month, starting from last September for a MSRP car. I was regular customer for 11 years, serviced 3 P-Cars and bought a CPO Cayenne GTS.
