removed door panel today. have been searching for over a year now for the source of a nasty rattle. had half the dash apart without success so am now looking at door panel.
i may have found the source. the PO had the stereo redone and when they installed the new right hand side lower speaker there was a crossover box with it that they just dumped down inside the lower trough of the door inside of the second steel door panel. it was no doubt rattling around in there since they ripped the bose stereo system out. really wish they hadn't done that!
anyway.... it's now tucked away again and wrapped in bubble wrap. the stereo installers also managed to ruin and break every (eight of them) door panel snapon attachment pieces. i've ordered some more.
This weekend I tidied up the wiring on my new head unit. No change on the outside, but I knew it was a bit of a mess behind.
Removed the hard wired radar detector cables, an IR receiver / transmitter I used with the previous head unit, some RCA cables, HDMI and USB cables and a RCA cable noise filter.
So with Porsche Japan typically not supplying customers directly with parts, I order a replacement set from Automobile Atlanta.
Not only were they happy to ship to Japan, but also took the time to confirm the order and address prior to shipping.
Then, shipped fast as fast and not sure how, but they arrived in Japan in just a few days.

Meanwhile, I've been waiting 9 days and counting for FedEx to get a 10lb. box of motorcycle parts from Denver to Atlanta. Apparently, it's easy to ship out of the U.S. from a hub like Atlanta, but shipping within the U.S. is another story.
I noticed progressive speaker failure from my left door speaker, soon followed by my right door speaker. Finally took the door panel off to see the following! The car is newish to me so I am not sure how loud the previous owners listened to their music, or if these speakers generally degrade over 10 years? New speakers have been ordered! 2012 Cayman basic speakers.
Edit: If you cannot easily see it, the speaker foam sticking out the bottom.

When the speakers fail, is there a rattle associated with them when they are not active?
Not mine. My failure sounded like static and bad distortion which didn't matter if it was the radio or CD playing. The noise went away when I turned off the audio. I read about static when not active, which seemed to indicate a wiring problem if I am not mistaken.
@Zach L California car. Based on some items and evidence I found while I've been getting familiar with the car, my bet the previous owner wasn't afraid to stress test the sounds system. My theory anyways. Luckily the speakers are easy to replace, and not too expensive ($40 a side).

Fabspeed catback exhaust brackets all cracked which left both mufflers hanging... not covered by their lifetime warranty unless I send them back the exhaust which would cost way more than a local repair.
Sorry you had the issue, the repair looks good. I wouldn't expect shipping to be covered under any competitor warranties either, but maybe so? Thanks for sharing!
