Great AMERICAN 964s for sale

Get over the “high miles” argument. You haven’t seen the car in person, so your opinions are purely speculative, unfounded, and frankly comical. Any vintage car that is intended to be DRIVEN requires meticulous maintenance and upkeep. This car went one step further to fully dial it in and upgrade beyond RS specs with the added benefits of AWD. It’s trolls like you that kill the market. You would benefit the entire community by keeping your biased opinions to yourself and practicing how to heel toe, assuming you even drive your car.

I’ve been looking to buy a 964 for over a year and had a very specific ambition to buy a grey or blue car and ultimately modify with OEM parts to really dial in the handling and experience. I’ve tried to buy some relatively clean examples I could use as the basis for a build similar to what the seller had done here focusing more on ‘93-94 examples, but just wasn’t successful. I lost out on that cobalt blue 964 on BaT last fall which I regret. So for me, this car just hit everything I was looking for - the color is extremely special and I found the modifications were all tasteful and additive to the original concept of the car. I believe the seller had put well north of $50k into this over 3 years - and to be able to drive this off the lot is worth something. I’m also not really bothered by the respray or the mileage - its definitely high but if well cared for (and this one certainly seems to be) then its fine in my view. I’m planning to enjoy/drive this thing frequently and own it for a long time.
So did I pay too much? For those that don’t value the color and modifications of course I did - I get it. I just happen to love the thing and its worth it for me. At the end of the day you have to want it more and pay the highest price to win an auction....would certainly have liked it even more at $20k less...
Happy driving out there.

Historically Rennlist has always placed a lower value on these (Porsche) cars than actual market value. I’ve seen this trend time and time again, cars get listed here at a reasonable price and there are no takers unless the price is much lower. Car gets listed on public website and or auction house and sells at or above the listed price here on Rennlist. I’ve personally experienced this three times over the past 15 years with my own Porsche sales, none of which sold here on Rennlist even though I had them priced correctly.
Personally I think it’s great that these cars are appreciating in value although that’s coming from someone who already owns one. If I were a buyer and watching the market I wouldn’t be too pleased. It’s all perspective.

^ there is a reason why many rennlisters cannot find pristine cars.
if you are ready to pay, there are a whole lot of pristine 964C2. but the price may scare some.
the mkt is the mkt.
good cars are always above mkt

I could see if this had some MCS or Ohlins, the engine TSB addressed, a stand alone ECU and tune and maybe some upgraded brakes but honestly I need to up my insurance if this is all it takes to make a 964 worth 6 figures. Maybe it would bring more with some martini stickers? I'm pretty sure I have a fairly good understanding what these cars are about and what makes one worth 6 figures vs another. I don't need to see the car in person I know the inside out of these cars and IMO someone is hitting the Kool Aid a bit hard. Lovely car but someone must love the color to overpay like that.
Ironically if you know me I am usually the one saying these are worth more than the crowd feels, not the case with this one.

Hey guys - I’m the new owner of the car and happy to share my thoughts on why I liked the car and ultimately purchased it. Have been a long time follower of Rennlist across a variety of forums over the years and love all the passion and debate amongst the Porsche community - I personally have learned a ton about cars and its informed many buying decisions I’ve made over the years. With regard to valuing air cooled cars, I personally think it comes down to what you really want/love and scarcity value (there seem to be less and less available if you have specific requirements). For me its more about passion than math when dealing with 30+ year old cars but I totally respect those of you that watch the market closely, have deep expertise, are highly informed on market pricing and have strong opinions - it makes for great discussions. Nice thing is that, ultimately, we all end up with awesome cars to drive...

When I posted last night your post did not show on my screen. My comments weren’t directed towards you. If you are happy that is all that matters.
I look at a lot of these for people both to buy and sell. I do it to help the 964 community and ask nothing for my opinion. Take it out leave it I always say.
I would have been happy to help you out. I actually knew of a 90 C4 diamond blue over linen with 42k miles I could have put you in touch with. The car was a bit rough but worth investigating. It sold about a month ago for half of what you paid. But you would have had to put another $35-40k into it to make it as nice as your car. To your credit the car you bought was ready to drive and clearly that was worth a premium to you.
I agree there is nothing wrong with a respray when done correctly. Your car is nicely done but there is just not enough info IMO and honestly the price is up there considering the miles and no mention of the TSB being addressed.
I just picked up another 964 that is a 145k mile track rat I plan to convert to a wide body 3.8 RSR street monster. I figure with the purchase of the car and my work I will have what you paid into it and it will be a high odo reading car that was completely redone. So that isn’t an issue for me.
As far as the cobalt blue car on BaT, I nearly purchased that car from the winner of the auction. It was a nice car but was a full respray. Very nicely done but the color is off and it doesn’t color shift like my OE paint on my 94T. I helped put that car back to original condition. It was a nice car as well but IMO overpriced for what it was.
I wish you the best with your new ride.

Why aren't we discussing the NineMeister built, complete rotisserie restoration to RS-spec with a 3.8l Varioram and upgraded 4-channel brakes and a whole bunch of other goodies, with less than 1000mi since completion, that sold for $143k?
