That felt like an amazing buy, although there seems to be questions on mileage and history of the car. Was the buyer from these forums? Congrats!

Regardlesss it’s a beautiful example and it looks like someone made an effort to bring back the pricy cosmetic components. I would say it was priced about right if not high considering the unknowns.

it was definitely a good buy, assuming the car checks out. The seller didn’t seem very engaging and a bit aloof when it came to answering questions. Specifically the one about the (missing) welds on the right rear engine bay when he said “you see what I see”. That and the mileage variation for 10 years seemed to keep the bidding low.

Indeed a great buy at todays market it'll be a great all season daily for those owners with a valuable air cooled cars and scared of driving it or putting more miles on it

Text says Automatic - that would be in line with the price.
Maybe he prices a tip, even though its a stick?
Or its a scam . . .

BH car club usually has pretty ratty cars but this one looks decent given the mileage (140k).

Has anyone seen data to support higher prices for rebuilds done by well known places vs a local indy or even by the owner? It would seem logical that a shop like Rothsport should command a premium but I can't recall an ad recently that has identified a known builder.

I am doing my rebuild with a reputable mechanic for the very reason you are asking above. However, I have no intention of selling anytime soon or ever, but it is also for peace of mind :-)

I bought my car with a 3.8 rebuild by Mike Callas (father of Tony Callas) with 3K on the build. It was a big factor in my purchase. I would say that a rebuild by a "name" is a bigger factor for more radical high performance builds. When pushing the limits, you want to know the builder is competent and has several dozen under their belt. You don't want to be the only high performance build by some sleepy shop somewhere.
