It could be a good deal but I would definitely have a very thorough PPI done. I bought my car from Albuquerque and know a good tech that can perform a PPI if needed. If he did the engine rebuild I would also have confidence in his work, mines been flawless and runs very strong.

Having said that I see that the dash is cracked, airbag cover is messed up and the seats look like they need to be redone as they look sun baked. I would look at the carfax closely to see if the mileage is accurate.

yup, checked CARFAX and he sent me records and the miles definitely match , looks like he did the head gasket too when doing the engine. The interior is sun damaged but that’s about it. The car is too much money for me at the current time. Hopefully someone here gets it.

PMC was the tech I was referring to, Russ is excellent and knows his air cooled cars. I’ve had several people drive my Targa (also air cooled owners) and every single one has commented on how hard the engine pulls and how well it runs. No leaks either after 3 years and a few thousand miles.

I saw that turbo in person Saturday. It seems like a nice starting platform for a build if you have that itch. I’d have a hard time driving it on the street as is, and I’ve street driven a lot of track oriented cars. To me, this car would be a ton of fun with an interior, redone exhaust to make it a little quieter, I’d cut the cage back to a roll bar as the welds are a little funky, put e88’s and a set of modern dampers and modern turbos in it and have a blast.

oh, and I’d probably go ahead and paint it Mexico blue.

And therein lies the issue... RMC is intentionally deceptive about their title situations (and other things according to other reports) in order to get their sale, and it cost me six months of sitting on a car I paid for but couldn't drive. If this doesn't bother you as a buyer, then sure I guess Tarek's advice of "get over it" is sound. If you'd like a title to be delivered with your car, then take my advice, avoid deceptive dealers with bad reputations like RMC. I'll continue to dissuade people from working with them. I have no interest in continuing this conversation. This thread (and community, for that matter) is dedicated to looking out for one another to avoid bad situations like mine. I can't imagine why you prefer I "got over it" as opposed to continue to warn others.

Geez, it took them 6 months to get you the title? ok that's another story, definitely wouldn't get over it in that case. I actually think a dealer has 90 days to get you title or you can take the car back by law no questions asked. 6 months is ridiculous.

No mention of the obvious rear end impact and what was done to fix it and a lot of paint work.

Help me understand this, $40K bid, 6 days to go, salvage title, partial records and it is wrapped? I get it only has 43K miles.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...1-carrera-2-8/

From the description:

"The Carfax shows that junk and salvage titles were issued in June 2002 followed by rebuilt titles from 2004 onward"

That is a bizarre one, for sure. I do not get it, either. Regardless of miles, I would think a car with that type of title should be selling for somewhere between 1/3 - 1/2 of what it is at already. Depending on the story, it could be turned in to a cool track car, but that depends totally on the condition of the frame. But not at that price, no way.

The only thing I do know for certain is that I personally would never be satisfied with a wrap unless the color was the same as the existing paint and I wasn't ready to spring for a full respray, or I wanted to preserve the underlying paint. Being able to see hints of the original color peeping through all of the body gaps and rear wheel wells just makes it look cheap. Also, is there a patch job on the LHD front fender between the headlight and trunk? There looks to be another seam in the vinyl above the driver side door. I get that wraps are hard and that the 964 has some very difficult curves to work with, but that would kill me every time I went to get in the car.
