Found a Black on Tan 1990 C2 95K miles on CL for $32K

Called the mechanic that works on it. Told me the engine needs rebuilding b/c of leaks at the heads (no gasket) case through bolts and chain cover, all 4 CV boots are torn, Front L control arm is bent, and one wheel is bent. Exterior and Interior are pretty nice

Any ideas on what a fair price is? Mechanic told me for a rebuild and all the suspension parts to be fixed is around 15-16K...ouch

I was thinking around $20K but I'm sure someone would buy it for more than that, even knowing the issues

it will sell for more than that. And if you buy it more than that it's too much IMO.

Nice examples (no rebuild needed) are selling lcose to or around $40k. So in theory, after substracting $16k you should not pay more than ~$24k

I bet even nice 40k 964s are all going to need some work, they are all old cars at this point:-)

"some" work is likely a few $k but we're far from engine out reseal with $15k of work.

There were two nice 1993 with less than 70k miles that sold for about $38k in the last weeks.

The main problem is finding such car and to be the first to buy it.. when 12 people are reayd to buy it sight unseen, no PPI, no paperwork.

So what is my 60k mile 93 C2 worth now? 0 mechanical issues and clean. Some DE safety eq and decals to be removed; seats put back but otherwise you wont find a more solid car.

Just to chime in, it is actually my car. I posted on the "Why so many rebuilds?" thread about the car a week or two ago. I just bought a restoration project and decided to let the 964 go. The car really looks great, runs great, etc. However, there is some leaking from what appears to be a couple through bolts. The weird thing is if I drive the car more frequently (which I rarely do) the leaks don't seem as bad. It runs so good that it seems like a shame to do a rebuild just to get rid of some oil drips.

The mechanic mentioned one CV boot when it was in a couple months ago but not 4?? He also mentioned a control arm and rim (rims were recently put on the car from another car so I'm nearly certain the "bend" wasn't done on this car) but since there is no abnormal vibrations at any speed and the tire wear appears even it didn't seem like it needed attention.

Anyway, it's a nice car....new clutch, good color combo and miles, clean history with records, etc. I don't think it NEEDS $15k of work any time soon but that is just my opinion. I put it on CL last night but already took the ad down because I've received so many emails already.

Buyers (and lookers ) seem to like throwing the 12-15k rebuild/reseal number around to bargain the price down.
From your 'why so many rebuilds' thread, that seems a rare event.

You can sell it $38-40k easy. The last 1993 was from a dealer and sold $38k, same mileage afaik. Midnight blue. You can see it in the Canadian sections n (an Ontario member bought it)

It will sell in a day like ALL the c2 coupe manuals lately (some are still showing on autotrader but most are sold already).

And you will likely find a buyer with no PPI sight unseen full asking price.

That's how the market is today!

Agree 100% ^ Btw, often times a minor wheel bend will not even be noticeable.

wardp, 32k is a steal in this market.

This is a great example on the unnecessary rebuild. The leak behavior you're talking about is classic oil return tube seals. They leak at both the case and the head when they go bad. I'd swap those out and bet you'll save 14.5 of the 15k for a rebuild...the through bolts are not prone to leaks and unless it sounds like a Harley...

I remember when this car sold for $25k on Pelican exactly 2yrs ago. Pelican for sale thread from 2012, and it was underpriced at $25k, it literally sold in hours..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...rix-white.html

After that it was for sale by Holt Motorsport for something around what it's being listed for now.

More pictures.

It was originally owned and built by a guy in Cali who goes by flatsixracer and Reinhardt Racing.

You can see a bunch of vids of it in action at autocross/time trials/track events when it was under ownership of the Reinhardt guy on his youtube channel.
