Donnington sounds great - been there many times to spectate, but never on-track

Do you think they'll need any ploughing done?

Checking times and prices for the dates we need - leave Friday morning (Folkestone to Calais) / return Monday morning (Calais to Folkestone)

Friday 23/3/2012:

Option 1: Leave at midday - price = £47

Monday 26/3/2012:

Option 1: Leave at midday - price = £45

there are other times around this...all ranging from £42-£49 euros each way so its going to be £92-£100 for a return ticket. Trains leave every 30 mins by the looks of it.

Boxsey - any advice / tips on this please let me know.

Once we agree a time for the booking we can start to book this up as well. That should lock in the key elements of the trip.

Rgds,
Right, have checked with Ian and his advice is that we need 4 hours travel time to get from Calais to the hotel at Spa. Therefore he suggests:

Going out on Friday: Aim for a 10 am departure (i.e. the 10 to 12 time slot but be early enough to get the first one). This allows an easy drive the other side, avoid rush hour and because of the time change we'll get to the hotel by about 4 pm.

Return on Monday: Aim for a 1 pm departure (12 to 2 time slot). This allows for a leisurely breakfast before we all set off home. I guess we might have had a beer or two the night before!

We also dont need to check out of the hotel and take our luggage etc with us so logistically its nice.

Other option is leaving Spa and checking into hotel at Nurburgring and then conveying back as a group separately on the Monday morning.

Decision just impacts the accomodation. If we go option 1 - we just book 3 nights through Ian at same hotel. If we go option 2 - we need to book the 3rd night somewhere near the Ring.

I quite like Option 1. Thoughts guys?
Evening all. I'm the one that is sorting the accomodation with Edgard (the hotel owner) at Ligneuville.

Thought I'd better join up, so that I can give my thoughts about the trip and where to stay, for those going to the Nurburgring.

IMHO, if the 'ring is open (and I don't think next years calendar is out yet), then it's very busy on Sundays.

If you're looking to do some serious laps, then the only time that you won't have trouble with traffic is first thing in the morning, and last thing at night. The morning is out, unless you want to skip breakfast, and leave the hotel at about 5am, and if you stay until the 7pm finish, then you will be late getting back for the evening meal (unless everyone is in agreement, and Edgard cooks for 9pm instead). In this instance, I would suggest staying in Nurburg. Am Tiergarten is good - run by the Schmidt family. If you are all agreed that a later meal in Ligneuville is best, then I'm sure Edgard would be happy to accomodate this.

If, however, you are are just looking to see what all the fuss is about, and do some leisurely laps, then staying with everyone else back in Belgium makes sense, as you can all have a good chat over the Sunday night meal.

Whatever you decide, I'll sort out with Edgard.

eta: Just paid Jonny at BaT, so that's me sorted. Just need to get my passport renewal done now.

Hi Ian (Araf) - thanks for the input and organising the accom at Spa. I have booked my spot for Spa for the Sat and for me the Ring is just going the be a few laps...maybe the 4 lap carnet...that will do me. Its just something I have always wanted to do so its more about the experience.

Anyway - cant wait....for Spa and the Ring...and for Donington again!

Boxsey - I am good with those chunnel times. I will book mine next week.

A friend in his Monaro wants to come along as well. Richie Sweeting. Hope I'm not speaking out of turn, by telling him "The more, the merrier."

For those interested in staying at or near the 'ring I've twice stayed at www.ringhaus.com and can say it's only 100m from the public entrance, the rooms are clean, the beer good and Sabine's family place is a short walk away.......

I'm still counting the days.......

So why did you have to go and mention Donnington, ehh Boxsey!?!?!?!?!?!? Can I bring something other than the 964???? And when you planning this?

Sorry, but there's a few more now. Richie couldn't contain his excitement, told the HSV forum, and a few more have asked for details, and booked.

I think it's going to be a big group.

Should be an interesting convoy!

How soon do you think we should book the crossings to ensure good prices?

Not sure. I'm going to leave it until the new year, but that doesn't mean others have to. We only have to synchronise for the 10-12 time slot on the way out, as you are staying on a day longer than us.

The Eurotunnel site is currently showing the Friday 10-12 timeslot on way out (Folkstone to Calais) as £47 and the Monday return at £42......(total £89) which sounds good to me.....

Can I suggest either the 11:20 or 11:50 departures (from both ends) as that gives people plenty of time to get to Folkstone if they're not local and Calais on the return!?
