The best trips with a good mix of personalities, cars and interests. Only cost is Tunnel, Accom, Steak on the Stone, Beer and Jaggermeister. If time allows maybe a couple of laps over the 3 days or so. Up to 25 cars on one trip, truly memorable.
In fact there is one this weekend!
Interesting. I'm happy to follow the crowd on whatever is decided.

I'll be taking it 'slow' around the Ring. I'm really not a lap time kind of guy!

I'll enjoy 'being conservatively silly' at Spa but the ring for me is a 'leisurely jog'. Mind you in the heat of the moment all the sensible attitude could go out the window!

Quick update on the 3rd Option (Option 1 = Porsche Shop / Option 2 = NurburgringUK) - using 911uk planning info and Ben Lovejoys site

Option 3 - Plan our own trip leveraging a Bookatrack trackday at Spa

A) Return Eurotunnel crossings - cost est = £120 return
http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/home/
The Chunnel takes 35 minutes, an hour less than Ferry - the Calais / The Eurotunnel operates 24hrs a day, 365 days a year, and leaves every 30 minutes.
Once we have the Bookatrack date for Spa we can book tickets online

B) Spa Trackday (date = TBA) - cost est = £275 + VAT
Once we have the Bookatrack date for Spa - we can book places on the trackday

C) Hotel accom at Spa - cost est = 60 Euro a night for single / 85 Euro for double
Note - basing this on The Ring prices as should be similar - any ideas from those that have been before?
http://www.spa-francorchamps.be/en/t...ncorchamps.php

D) 1 days access to the Nurburgring Nordschleife (public day)
Just need to rock up and pay for laps

E) Hotel Accom @ The Ring - cost estimate = 60 Euro a night for single / 85 Euro for double
lots of options
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/where_to_stay.php

F) European breakdown cover (if people dont have it aleady)
estimated cost - either £0 (as incl of your current policy) or + £40 for ones like classicline

Total Cost (excl food/fuel/booze/ring tickets) = £550-£600 p/p (incl spa trackday/chunnel tickets return / 3nights accom/euro breakdown cover)

Am still thinking that this will be a 4 day gig (what do you think is a Friday morning leave time from Calais with a return time of Monday arvo about right? too long?....depending on whether the Spa day is a Sat or Sunday will influence whether we do Spa or the Ring first)

Any thoughts/insight let me know

BU

Sounds like a nice couple of days at a more sensible cost

yeah does seem better. get freedom to do what we want to do as a group, additional passenger expense is far lower as well.

Np's - I have asked Jonny @ Bookatrack to give me a heads up on the Spa date when he knows it but I will send a chaser.....maybe this time in Sept. See what the view is then....its really the key dependency for us to then make decisions re: the rest of the trip.

Bear in mind that the ring is only open for public days on certain dates, I don't think the 2012 dates are available yet but the 2011 are here on Ben Lovejoy's site:

Thanks James...I am kinda hoping we are lucky in that the Spa trackday 2012 coincides with a public day on the Ring!....... fingers crossed!

If it doesn't we'll just have to do both days at Spa instead.

Ouch! However, this remains the definitive 'how not to drive the ring video' for me:
