964 Prices

I love these misleading articles. Please find me a 928GTS for $13k. Most 5 speeds in pristine condition are a min of $90-110k and have always been up there. Really nice 914's are commanding at least $25k. Actually I am not sure what to get out of that but most of those prices are not for anything but average or below average examples and say nothing about what is currently going on with the market.

If you have one of these cars that are worth far far more than what a normal insurance company sets value at, then you need to shop around and find an insurance company that is willing to agree with you on real market value. Haggerty is one example. You may have to agree to drive the car less than 5k miles per year to get them to agree to real collector car value.

For my 964 Targa, I went with Grundy over Hagerty for these reasons
- They agreed on my $100K evaluation without hassle
- They were 80% (!!) cheaper than Hagerty. $700 for the year versus $3500

I’ve read through this thread and it seems like a lot of you guys bought your 964s over 10-15 years ago for 20-35k. Good for you!
I have a 2021 GT4 and some other modern cars.
I need a 964!
I have a left ankle problem so I’ll buy a tip. I know, sacrelidge. Sorry.
Anyway I saw a really clean well maintained car, one owner, 130k miles.
What should i be looking to pay for a 964 tip? It’s hard for me to gauge the market as I don’t see a ton of cars for sale.

This is the direct website to the selling shop. http://www.theautorepairlady.com/
It is a Mom and Pop shop I visited them once for a 964 coupe they were selling which did not check out. Modest location and they seem to sell some of their customer's cars.
Keep us posted on how this goes.
Its a targa which are rarer than Coupes. I think this one merits at least a call to the selling shop. Good luck.

Wow. Just got my issue of Excellence (with the GT3 Prototype on the cover), with the 964/993 valuations. Not that I'm disturbed or upset, but seems like the prices posted run pretty, um, low. (Not sure of the etiquette/copyright involved in a cut-and-paste, so I didn't do it). But I'd be hard pressed to find even an average condition 964 for $30K (coupe or cab) or average condition targa for $25K. Excellent condition cars are listed as $60K for coupes, $45-50K for cabs, and $45K for targas. No distinguishment between model years or transmission styles.
I'm not complaining. These cars are/were fun because they were relatively affordable, as air-cooled 911s go. Somehow cars seem get less fun (or at least fellow owners seem to get less fun) when pricing starts hitting upper 5-figures and low 6-figures.

When I went to sell my perfectly restored 914-2.0l back in 2003, Excellence said the car shouldn't bring $4500. I had buyers quote their pricing and I just laughed. Eventually I sold the car for $9500 to make room for another car and a year later the buyer offered it back to me as First right of refusal. The offer on the table was $15,500. A few years later I hear it sold for $25k meanwhile Excellence was still claiming the car wasn't worth even the $9500 I sold it for. Don't put any merit in printed numbers it is good if you are looking at a #4 or what I call most #5 car and use their #1 pricing that is all they are good for.
