Now showing up for auction on Hagerty. It is an AP Design Car and is extensively modified. Started out life as a Japanese spec Tiptronic (now has a manual swapped) ‘93 C2 without a sunroof and finished in Rubystone Red.

I don't mind it being modified from a tip but badged as an RS?? You can add all the goodies to a C2 and it is still not an RS. If they seam welded the tub and rebuilt the engine to RS spec with the short ratio box I might think differently. My C2 is more of an RS than this car is.

I guess it will show what a cosmetic cloan sells for with a real RS bringing multiple 6 figures these days.

If it was only ordered without the sunroof. Should prove interesting.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ra-2-coupe-10/ $146,000? WTF?
I know we all like to see values go up on our cars but this is getting scary; I already drive the car less (LA traffic; anuses and certifiable anuses), since Covid and the growing ambivalence of law enforcement to police the crazies, the car only comes out now early morning weekends.

Ironic really as I bought the 964 so the wife and kids could thrash something at the track other than the 73T.

i wonder if the white Turbo that is currently on BaT will even reach this price since it doesn’t appear as well sorted as this C2 (and it’s in Canada and that seems to warrant a discount for some reason)

I think there is a big group of buyers on BAT that feel, or have been told, they really need a 964 and so the bidding gets hot. What they don't realize is that BAT has a pipeline of 964s waiting in the wings to come live the minute one sells; there is already a white/black car, albeit not as nice and a tip to boot, on auction. Wait. Or overpay-your call.

$146,000 and the buyer with 6 whole posts, do they get a PPI, anything like a proper report of condition or does the relationship start as the car is unloaded off the transport? Where was the buyer when I was selling bridges over the mighty Los Angeles River (think of all the tolls!).

While we are on the subject of who pissed in my cornflakes; the Amethyst Turbo that sold 10/22 for $401K, sold today for......$401K. I don't get it. And I don't like not getting it, doesn't remind me of...Victory.

Don't forget the auction fee!

The Carrera 2 market is definitely not cooling down. 964's definitely have caught a worldwide audience and have been more or less accepted as THE classic 911 to have. Very exciting to see how popular 964's have become. People buying them to completely restore them now and doing some amazing builds through companies such as AP Design.

I feel bad. I ripped the turbo and I found out I know the owner. Great guy and has really done a nice job fixing it up. I have seen worse sell for more. It is not a bad car just has some skeletons but should make someone a nice driver. I see no reason it shouldn't exceed $145k it is a turbo after all and it isn't a bad car just needs more pictures and info.

Sadly, I think some of these high water mark for so so 964 coupes are not going to end well. I know of a handful of uber wealthy Singer turbo study buyers that have been shopping for a donor Coupe Singer would accept. They have allocations coming up quickly and if they don't source a straight clean tub soon will lose their spot and to the end of the line so I am told. I know of one person who spent $90k on a very nice 964 only to send it to be chopped up. I guess it's just rounding error. Singer will continue to gobble these cars up so long as the uber wealthy want and don't care if it impacts the 964 for the enthusiast. I am not saying that this car will be chopped up but in all honesty how many clean straight 964 coupes are really out there? Lots of damaged goods with bandaids and lipstick but few that qualify to become a singer.

I actually see the Amethyst turbo as a sign the market is still strong for unique cars. How many exist in this color? Less than a handful worldwide no doubt. The TMU and interior exterior combo would bother many but no doubt not some. I still have standing offers for far more for mine and I don't see the 3.6T market cooling off. So few to choose from and most are run of themill or have skeletons. The fact it sold for the same price as 6 months ago was surprising if the market cooled it would have dropped but it sold for the same price as before. IMO this car is not worth any more as it isn't a collector grade with its history and ??? So a truly nice 3.6T should see more.

I am curious what my amazon 93 C2 with 62k miles originally optioned with Cup I's, LSD cruise etc would sell for today if I didn't chop it up and remove the sunroof. I suspect it's value went down and not up but I don't care just curious.

Do you really want to sell even at that price? What could you replace it with that won't cost more or satisfy less?

@cobalt i read your comment on the BaT listing. I wouldn't say you ripped it. You pointed out a few things pretty fairly. The car has had 2 rear enders, that will do more to the pricing than swapping a few parts like I/C hoses.

I suppose, it's always good to remember that there are people behind these cars and that - in most cases - they do the best they can based on their experience with the car, what other people tell them, and with the time and money they have.

I try to be fair, honest and to the point. I don't always succeed. In all honesty when he contacted me yesterday I had no idea it was his car and he had no idea some of the things I pointed out were in question. The seller is a true enthusiast looking to move on to a different 964 and I know he put a lot of time and effort to make this car as best as he could. Not much you can do about a cars past. Sadly there are many cars in far worse shape that sold for more on BaT in the past. I know one of the highest priced turbos sold on BaT had a complete respray and was sold as all original paint. I don't believe the seller had any idea it had been painted but I saw the car years before and no way it was original.

I feel like in the current market I got a great deal on my 92 C2. Granted its a common color but I paid substantially less than that 90 C2 from BaT this weekend and my car is close in milage but no sport seats or LSD.
