if anyone finds any non-MWR 1.8T swap in progress, let me know.
Hey Alan, I think Dan might have mentioned the 944 Outlaw Group on FB last weekend? I don't know if your on there, but I think there might be some genuine interest there and possibly in other 944 based groups on FB as well. If you need help putting information out there, just let me know.

Thanks Ben, I forgot about that. I'm not on FB, so I'll see if Dan can post something on there about the bellhousing. Feel free to post a link to this as well. I don't think I want my email or phone number on FB, so I guess the best way for them to reach me is by posting on this thread or PM. *EDIT* I sent you an email with group buy info to post...
Wall posters? Is no one racing them? I love what Motor Werks is doing, but I hope their customers are putting the products to good use!
i say that because they seem not to have any interest in acquiring actual customers, only shotgunning pictures of beautiful cars with 1.8 engines fitted.
they have a continuous history of never answering direct questions through any line of communication regarding pricing info, so for now, just wall posters.
good to know about the 1.8/2.5 interchangeability details. also, had thought about putting a 944 BH with adapter but thought that was tried without success in this thread, but i had forgotten about the chain case issue.

I think they are priced at the very high end of the 944 spectrum... where if you have to ask you probably can't afford it. :-) There must be a bizarro world for 944's around Atlanta. It's cool to see the humble 944 getting such first class treatment, IMO.
Payment and Lead Time:
Here's how I think I'd like to handle the group buy payments. To commit to the group buy, I would like everyone to pay a $100 deposit by May 6, which will be fully refunded if the group buy falls through (paypal me at alan_arkus@yahoo.com). Once we determine the total number of people who are committed, I will get a final quotation from Quick Time, and divide it up evenly. The estimate right now is approximately $1,000 each, but this could come down significantly if we get more than 5 people. When the bellhousings are manufactured and ready to ship, I will request payment in full from everyone, and I will pay QuickTime. I will receive all of the bellhousings, inspect them and test fit them, and ship them out to everyone. I estimate this whole process will take 6-10 weeks. *EDIT* The production run timeframe has shifted to Oct/Nov.
Bellhousing Info:
Quick Time SFI certified bellhousing for 944 / VW 07K 2.5L 5-cyl swap (and potentially VW 1.8T). This will be a new design that basically merges two existing Quick Time products: RM-4082 (Audi/VW to Muncie) and RM-6033 (LS to 944 torque tube), and puts the starter in a location similar to the original 944 setup. The plan is for the new bellhousing to accommodate the same hydraulic throw out bearing that LS1's use, so no more clutch fork will be needed. The bellhousing will angle the engine at approximately 15 degrees towards the passenger side.
Here's the clutch, flywheel, release bearing, and starter setup that this bellhousing will work with (THESE PARTS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN GROUP BUY):
- 240 mm clutch disk made for the 944 Turbo
- Single mass flywheel and ring gear made for the 2002-2005 VW GTI 6-spd trans "02M"
- Pressure plate made for the 2002-2005 VW GTI with 6-spd trans "02M"
- Starter from 2002-2005 VW GTI 6-spd trans ("02M" starter)
- Hydraulic TOB from GM Pontiac Solstice GXP, part number 24249824
Anyone have experience with VW hydraulic throw out bearings? Are they robust? If so, I think I will try to accommodate that as an alternative option (in addition to the LS1 TOB).
Here's my progress so far on the bellhousing. Using measurements I took and Alex's scan file, as well as drawings from Quick Time for the RM4082 and RM6033, I'm building a model of the bellhousing. Design is maybe 40% finished, but I figured you guys might like to see where it's heading.
Nice! Are you with Loose Cannon Racing? I just got a deposit from them.
Yep that's right. Other option is to use a 924 turbo housing and the VW OEM adapter plate they use(d) for some applications but this appears it would be stronger.

Yeah the adapter ideas have been discussed extensively on this thread. I’m sure it could be made to work, but I personally would feel much more confident in a spun steel SFI certified unit at the power levels and engine speeds we’re talking about.
Any thoughts on making it use a 240mm flywheel to utilize the larger pressure plates from non-I4 VAG engines (I5, V6tt, V8)? This would possibly complicate finding a 240mm clutch disc that has the correct spline for the torque tube. 240mm clutch conversion is pretty common for 1.8T's so there are several options for 240mm 6-bolt flywheels. Another benefit is for people that would rant to run an 8-bolt forged TTRS crank instead of a forged 6-bolt crank from an early car. I'm not sure if there are any 8-bolt 228mm flywheels. The other option is to machine extra bolts to the 6-bolt crank/flywheel as Jim Green and others have done.

I believe the OEM adapter translates the VR6 to the I4 pattern, which wouldn't work with the 9231 bellhousing but would with this. HOWEVER, the 034 websites lists that it converts to 016 gearbox, which most commonly in the USA came in the I5 pattern...which if the VR6 adapter does translate it to the I5 pattern the 931 bellhousing would work but this one would not.
So you'll definitely need to verify what pattern the VR6 adapter indeed translates too.
