VW/Audi 07K (2.5L 20V I5) Swap Thread

They are talking about the audi box. Its supposed to be pretty strong too. The 968 transmission is just too rare and expensive.

On that note, looks like I'll be in the market for either a turbo transmission or finding some way to beef up my NA trans to take some abuse.... And the only option I've heard of is to machine the housing and install a billet steel spacer plate to replace the weak cast steel portion for the pinion bearing, which, I guess is an okay idea to support a future 5 cylinder turbo build, however I haven't been able to find documentation on the limits of that modification.

I have driven the open differential n/a trans and you definitely want lsd with anything over 180 hp I would say. Turbo s transmissions are a good deal if you plan on launching your car due to the first 2 gears being hardened compared to the turbo or s2 transmission. If your road racing not spending much time in 1st or 2nd gear both the s2 and turbo should be as strong as the turbo s. The S2 transmission is geared for n/a applications but if you change the ring and pinion to a turbo one I believe, all your gear ratios become the same as the turbo transmission + - 1-5% in all gears.
s2 is the cheapest transmission to buy that can be converted to turbo gearing or remain in n/a gearing and should be as strong as a turbo s transmission from gears 3-5.
if your drag racing on slicks the aparent limit of the turbo s transmission is 425 foot pounds of torque. Apparently this is the limit where the stock chassis bends too. If on street tires or track tires apparently a guy has had his transmission live at 700hp for 2 years until he replaced it so he could have paddle shifters. I have no proof of this i just read this on another forum
Dont Quote me on all of this but this is what i learned from research when choosing what transmission to put into my 1983 n/a 944

i made my own adaptors and custom crossmember but could easily be adapted to the stock bar etc,
im willing to share some info if needed, as i got my info from i believe the first guy mentioned... NOT WIDERSTANFEIGDKJGH...
he started talking about his sway kits.. they werent cheap... in my opinion... i think he wanted something like 350 for the coupler which wasnt a great design in my opinion and his trans adaptor(mount) was like another 300,,, for a piece of steel...

Okay, so dipped my toes into the 01E rabbit hole a bit and was intimidated by just how much content there was, so perhaps I ask here...
Is there such thing as a DSG 2WD 01E transaxle?
A "944 if they had paddles back then" restomod could be cool... Perhaps too ambitious with no existing literature, but somebody has to be the first, right?

I think the residing issue is that the 01e swap has been 100% custom, and no one steadily produces the components needed to put it into a 944 chassis. There's also a supply issue for the trans itself, so we'd have to either import them, or find a used one and rebuild it, which is the track I'd be taking since I know a friend who has one with syncro issues.. if I had the capital I would invest in the machines needed to do it myself in a heartbeat.... But until then I guess us NA guys are restricted to a safe power level. gg Porsche.
Edit: that being said, my NA has a 40% LSD diff, & when the stock engine was running I definitely wasn't very nice to it, so I'm not too worried about my driving style being impeded, it would just be nice to have reassurance and peace of mind someday.

The market is obviously begging for a solution. Some day we will investigate it further and hopefully come up with something for everyone. Unfortunately we just don’t have time right now with all
of our other commitments.
