VW/Audi 07K (2.5L 20V I5) Swap Thread
#211
I had a good phone call with Quick Time yesterday, and they are interested in making a new product for this swap. They sent me CAD drawings for their RM-4082 (Audi/VW to Muncie) and RM-6033 (LS to 944 torque tube). I'm going to design a new bellhousing that sort of merges the two, and puts the starter in a location similar to the original 944 setup. The new bellhousing will accomodate a hydraulic throw out bearing similar to what LS clutches use, so no more clutch fork to deal with. This will require a push type pressure plate, rather than pull type like the 944 uses. If there isn't an existing clutch that works, I will probably try to work with SPEC to make a push version of their 944 or 930 pressure plate.

The downside of the LR push type clutch setup is I would have to make a custom flywheel to bolt to the 07K.

Actually, looking at the SPEC website, they already offer a full range of high performance clutches for the 07K, which I think are already push type. It might be as simple as using a porsche 951 or 930 disk in place of the VW disk, so the spline matches the driveshaft.

If you think the custom flywheel route might be in order, which could make sense for the trigger wheel to do a stand alone system, contact the guys at TTV http://ttvracing.com. I just got this for my rebuild since I'm going that route.

In which case, here's a potential clutch setup:
- Single mass flywheel made for the 07K: https://www.fourseasontuning.com/252...etle-w-25.html
- SPEC Stage 3+ pressure plate made for the 07K
- SPEC Stage 3+ clutch disk made for the 944 NA

Yes, you can use the stock sensor with VEMS (or your favorite standalone). Trigger wheel is built into the rear main seal so you don't need it on the flywheel.
Not the exact same as the picture below, but similar.

...or, how far off is a regular 944 bellhousing from some holes on the vw engine

I borrowed a measurement arm from a friend last night, and took a bunch of measurements to design the motor mounts and bellhousing. Thanks, Dan (xsboost90) for letting me use your shop!

Here's where the turbo will go. Plenty of room for just about any reverse rotation turbo. I'm looking at the new Garrett G25-660.

Is anyone interested in a group buy on a custom designed Quick Time bellhousing? With 5 people, they would be around $1000 each, which is less than what the RM-4082 sells for online. The custom bellhousing will directly mate the 07K to the 944 torque tube, and hold the OE vw starter in a location similar to a 944.
