If that re-clear is documented at the factory I would consider it original paint AND a bonus. That's a similar exercise as done to the cars prepped by the factory destined for the auto shows.
Regarding the clear coat on this car... If it was a factory preparation look for "option I 740 Exhibition Car" (more information below).
Additional information that I learned about my car...
"I 740 - Exhibition car"
How many total worldwide "Exhibition" cars are there? 41
How many U.S. "Exhibition" Specification cars are there? 5
How many U.S./Canada "Exhibition" Dual Certification cars are there? 1 (Snow White pictured below)
How many ROW "Exhibition" cars are there? 35
What makes I740 "Exhibition" cars different?
It turns out that there are no special individual parts. I740 is: "Exhibition Finish". Ultra straight bodies were identified and removed from the production line and taken to the "Exclusive" department for instillation of various exclusive options and show preparation for worldwide markets. Fine adjustments were made and any imperfect parts were replaced during three separate finishing/inspection sequences. Additional perfection of the paintwork was completed which included clear coating, wet sanding, blocking and buffing..
Buying that Callaway twin turbo is like buying a hand grenade that's already had the pin pulled. Keep a tight grip on it and be careful where you throw it!
Also like buying a piece of great history - so someone should save it for sure!
It looks to be in good condition...
Who will the lucky soul be?
Interesting mannequin!
😂😂😂 that manny!
I wonder how many Callaway cars still exist in their original configuration?

Probably none. I have the first one built, and it currently has an 84 Euro S engine in it. All the original engine parts/Callaway bits are in boxes in the garage.
I corresponded with Reeves a year ago and he remembers my car in particular. He reached out to me when I requested the Callaway COA for it.
On the Ebay car, who was the lazy bastard that spelled Callaway wrong on the oil temp guage?

This car is at the dealership.I think he has bought it for 30-35.000 €
Brakes , waterpump and timing belt are done.
I payed 24.000 € for a 155.000 miles car with the same stats and I know the brakes and engine mounts are toast, timing belt service should be done.
How much is a 86.5 five speed in the US in this condition?
If paint, interior and mechanics are good the better car is the cheapest one.
seems like a good one with that kind of mileage would be around 30-35 with a manual.
Here is the Sheet for 928 prices in Germany.
left is Note 2, middle 3, right 4.
School notes in Germany are 1 best-6 worst.
So the model year 86 Cars as five Speed should be the most wanted under enthusiasts.
ABS and old Style without Airbag, Same driving Performance but without the complexity of an S4

that is interesting info, thanks! That looks to lump the early 5 liter cars in with the rest of the s models, so that part has me curious. The other big difference I think is that the euro models in the early 80s with the big hp advantage over us models are also leading to differences in value between us and Europe. Here anything between 80-85 seems to go for a bit less than a comparable s4. The s3s, tend to bump up a but since that does get the combo of 5.0 performance, etc with the earlier body style over the earlier us S models. Looks like in Germany the earlier cars are favored across the board
Not in perfect condition, but more practical and reliable than you’d think! It gets positive attention wherever it goes and the occasional person who takes a video of you. Major tune up and tires less than 4,000 miles ago. Was originally purchased in Europe and during its journey a MPH speedometer was put into place so the true mileage is unknown. Odometer reads 80k miles. Runs and drives. Clean Colorado title. Passing emissions in hand. No warning lights.

Come take it for a test drive!"
I’ll be shocked if that car is still around 10 minutes from now. At that price, you can still drop $30 to $40 k and still come out ahead.

Rich
I've kind of always wanted one of these.. I'm in callaway country in southeastern connecticut. There's a lot of callaway cars around the area (alfas vettes volkswagens etc ) thought it be cool to have one of these for the regional nostalgia bit. A few friends within 30 miles of me own a total of 4 Callaway Afla Romeo GTVs and sometimes I get to work on them. That pretty much cured any neurosis about wanting the 928.

Sounds like the project was a failure with all the blown engines?
