This (Monterey) is a better venue for it...

If you drive one of these SP powered cars, you immediately know the difference. The liveliness of the Club Sports is noticeable and the sound is crisper.

Pure 928 IMO - - - collectable for those with the means...

This is not a restored car, it has been driven and exceptionally well maintained.

Are there photos of the frame and rear body work they did? That would probably be the biggest issue overall.

The ship arrived a day too late for the previous auction, according to the owner.

To my knowledge, this is the first production 928 CS in the USA.

Samuel, That is the same thing I heard from Broad Arrow/ Haggerty. I forgot to follow up with the information.

Sure it can be confirmed by serious buyers that take the time to inspect the car. Judging from the photos the car looks to be in exceptional (but not concourse) condition.
The seams look correct all the way around and given the investment the owner has in this car it is reasonable that the frame is correct and truly straightened.
I'll post a few of the photos for the critical eyes of our 928 fans...

IMO, this is a great opportunity for a serious collector of 928's to acquire a true rarity. If I did not already own the 1 of 1 GTE and the 1 of 1 U.S. XX8 - - - plus five other 928's this car would not be available as I would have purchased it privately over a year ago.

I certainly hope this car does well as the 928 needs big collectors to have an interest in the top line ultra rare cars to support the value of the entire marque...

Possible Apple Green 78 in IAA

Closer look by wiper motor seems to show it as well.

Shame. Set of S4 wheels as well by the looks of it. They just put the fronts on the drivers side, and the rears on the passenger side. I get that color isn't for everyone, but it would be stunning if completely redone.

I am perplexed daily with these prices, what price people are asking, what they should be asking up or down, and what the market pays for them. Sometimes its ridiculouslessy overpriced, sometimes I'm like, how did it sell that cheap.

There is a massive lack of education on these cars, and what it takes to really command a top dollar price. Either way, in my opinion the bottom price is way too low for such cars. I am in the middle of a stereo intstall, and having to remove every panel, seats, everything on the interior, shows you the level of details on the 928. The damn floor mats are trimeed in leather....

I think we are past the point of, has it had a TB/WP? Hows the OPG? Motor Mounts? Those are all basic starting points. I see a concerted effort of folks on this site sending facts through on places llike BAT. Thanks for that, because these cars are massively undervalued.

I am waiting for the moment when people realize, very much like what happened with the last air cooled 911's and 993's. Probably another 20 years before that happens, but it will happen.

I think it's a general lack of understanding of what's happened to the classic car market over the past 3 years. I see similar things in other forums, C&C etc... folks who don't really pay much attention to the "car world" of the internet, much less BAT or any other auction site. I was approached by a local 928 owner I met randomly once or twice in the past 20 years, thinking about selling his manual trans 86.5. Very nice car. less than 100k, and he asked: "So you think I could get $10k for it?" Needless to say we had a long chat. He's never been on Rennlist, never heard of BAT, doesn't use FB.... shop in the Fox Valley does all his work (great shop).
I have a new customer who recently picked up a 1992 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo, 20k miles, absolutely perfect shape, for $12k. He randomly came across the car the day it went for sale, that was the asking price and he wrote a check. That's what the car was worth prior to 2020. I could go on for pages (dear Lord, not again) on similar deals I've seen folks snag due to long time owners simply not paying attention or doing even 10 seconds of research.

It's like some kind of inner dimensional portal opened up on new years 2021 and most folks didn't walk through.

Agree 100%.
Right now I look at paint first, then interior. If those are 8/10 or higher, not much else matters to me. Everything else can be fixed or replaced for next to nothing compared to having to do a complete repaint. If you haven't priced that out lately, don't, you'll die of shock.

Agree.
IMO, as a car becomes a collectable or a classic, upgrades/modifications/personal touches detract. Repaints, repairs, and even low mileage seem to matter less than a strong, documented ownership and maintenance history, zero modifications, original paint, interior, etc. I think most buyers like a clean, original slate to work with. You can't get original paint or interior back, no matter how open your wallet is.
If you're lucky enough to find one with a great story and importance, then you have something that is priceless to many (#1 comes to mind).

If anyone is genuinely interested in this blue S4 on Denver Craigslist, I'd be happy to go take a look since it's in my backyard. I am not familiar with this car, so not an active 928 owner in the Denver area.

Looks good in pictures, and I like the color. But I am curious how good a paint job and interior it has, given how rough it looks under the hood. Also, the "A/C just needs charging" is a bad sign to me. If that's all it needs, then charge it. Instead, it usually means there is a much more costly problem, or that the owner is so disinterested in routine maintenance that they can't even bother with that.

Price seems high for an auto with that mileage, but maybe the paint is amazing and the TB was just done with new cams and with superbearings in the torque tube.

Matt
