89 GT rims are forged vs cast 90 and up GT Design 90's. 89 GT also came with a factory spacer (17mm on the rear). AFAIK all GT's 89 and up had "rolled" fenders so spacing should be OK for you to fit the CS rims. Keep in mind that the 8" CS rims are the rare ones (with 60mm offset). There are 7" variants as well as some with different offsets (both 8" and 9"), so close inspection is critical.
The look of the Design 90's (90 and up GTs) is very similar to the 89CS/GT rims so only a discerning eye would probably notice.
Here's a googled pic of the two (from a 944 site)....

I bought a set of d90s that were the 928 spec for a few hundred dollars and had them refinished. Much less money, and d90s were the original wheels for most of the GTs I believe. Another difference is that d90s were painted silver and the cs were anodized. The anodizing is susceptible to some cleaners and more involved/expensive to properly reanodize so a set of d90s are more straightforward in that regard, unless you decide to polish or paint the cs instead of anodize. If you can find 928 spec d90s they will also have the tire pressure system that i think your car also desires. There were d90 wheels on both 944s and 964 911s that do not have the sensors. They also have different widths and offsets than the 928 wheels. People are practically giving away or just keeping in storage the 964 spec as they are so common. My 87 928 s4 came with 964 spec d90s. Rears fit fine as they were the identical size as the 87 oe rear. Fronts were the real issue. They are only 6" wide and needed spacers to clear the calipers which resulted in an offset of about 42mm instead of the desired 65. They fit and looked ok, but the steering was incredibly light with that offset and tended to understeer with such a narrow tire. I still have that 964 set for sale if I haven't scared away everyone here with my glowing review, lol.
The "Manhole Cover" wheels are also forged. Some have modified them to look like Club Sport wheels.
@Todd T took that idea to the extreme to save weight:
Aren't the forged manhole cover wheels pretty light? I remember running the 16x8 rears all around with the 245/45-16's R comps on my racer.....I don't recall them being particularly heavy, but can't remember the exact weight

Yes they are, but we're talking about the guy who spent the better part of a day shaving off the cooling fins on the oil pan to save like 2lbs.

So were the Club Sports an actual separate/unique forging?
I thought the factory machined them from the S4 forged wheels.
I REALLY like the look of that wheel in your picture.
How did Todd machine those? Fixture? Numerical program? .

An old and long time friend of mine is looking for a new garage and driver/maintainer. It was in excellent condition when I sold it, and has many upgrades and tasteful (in my opinion) modifications. I'll try to answer any questions an interested buyer might have. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...8-gts-35/inion

Was there ever an explanation about what the title problem was that caused the cancellation of the auction..?

I always thought they were the same forging. Todd did them 100% by hand with a die grinder. About 40+ hours per wheel.
Did you ever try an ozone generator. Nasty piece of equipment but it will get rid of most cigarette or mold odors.
It's a joke Anthony; the interior on that car is trashed and all of it needs to come out, so it is not much of a sale ad to call the car a nonsmoker. Plus it's a lie. No way a dealer can represent that a 41 year old car was not smoked in.

I see now. However I sold a 944 recently with an interior that started like that. Everything was covered in White mold and smelled really bad. Washed everything down with white vinegar and then used an ozone generator and it removed the mold and cigarette smell completely. The buyer knew what the interior was like before but was happy with it when done.
I just saw your post. I didn't see you this year at Amelia. Wow, I saw this and I didn't realize it would sell for so much. My car is equally as clean but more miles. I suspect the market for these is still growing with that number. I guess my Insurance value of $95k needs to be increased. I bumped into someone who worked for Holbert motors when my GTS was sold at Amelia. He gave me the full history on my car before it was sold. My readings are consistently high and the patena says it is original. Apparently the clear had issues from the factory and they had the car disassembled wet sanded and cleared before ever being titled. Not happy but what can you do. Still a great example. So is that considered original paint if it was done prior to sale? I see more and more cars with stories like this?
