It's not the powder coating per se, but the media blasting to prep the intakes for whatever you plan to do: paint, powder coat, polish.

I once heard 200 miles (couple hours), but I thought I read about a situation where the motor was ruined much later? To me, the sludge mix could take many forms and hide in any number of places with, again IMO, the S3 intake plenums having the "better" hiding places.

Iceman, by "strip" do you mean chemically strip vs. media, or is the key word "yourself" meaning you have full control? In my case I am doing the latter and obtained access to a media blaster. I stuffed my S3 intake plenums full of paper and 3x Gorilla (brand) taped the intake and balance tube openings and otherwise plugged any other orifices (one small threaded hole in each plenum and one tube connector on one plenum). Even then, I will check the insides with a boroscope for any debris and rinse repeatedly.

The S3 plenum sides are new under 200 dollar each, why blasting?

Because:
1. I did not know that, and
2. I got the wild idea to have them polished!

Why not use a soft/safer media such as nut shells?

Wouldn't it be possible for a "glob" of media to remain "lodged" indefinitely, and then eventually just come loose much later and get ingested..?
.

Anyone in Denver that can help me out with this one or recognize this car? I emailed and said I’d purchase it but it is either a scam or someone will beat me to the punch. Lol

EDIT:I spoke to the seller. Seems legit.

Not use of “probably.”

As in: most of the time the motor gets sandblasted in a couple of hours. But, not necessarily all of the time.

I’m surprised it didn’t get picked up then. Seems like solid example. What am I missing? Said the other 2 buyers got cold feet when it came to shipping the car. Doesn’t the price seem pretty low for what it is?

If you can wait until next weekend (22nd or 23rd) and it's not raining, I can go take a look and get some photos. That paintjob looks like a cheap quickie job.

Yes, even with a poor paint job, this still looks like a very good deal on an early pascha car.

Crazy, how the sun killed the interieur!
But my homestead is 1.000 miles north of New York.
Sun damage is here not so common.
