In Germany for 77,900 Euro ($85,600)
It does appear to be riding at 'Safari' version height....at least in the front, no?

Could not possibly disagree more. But that's what makes this place great!

Now as far the '79 above being "worth" $85K, well if someone pays that then it is "worth" $85K to at least one person. However I think the more accurate statement would be that this '79 will likely not sell for $85K.

Agreed. But I think it is in the $50K to $60K range all day long. The '79's are nearly as strong as the 78's.

That '79 is stunning. Two minor criticisms: shouldn't the "PORSCHE" script on the rear bumper be red as well? I didn't think they started adding the decals until ~1981.... Also, it appears to be missing the rear luggage cover.

If someone is willing to spend that money, then good for them, they'll get an amazing car. But I don't make enough (and probably never will) to be able to not instinctively think about "but this later year/different trim is 98% of the car that one is, for 75% of the money", etc.

IIRC there are no adjustment collars on the early cars..this tends to bring the front end up a bit to the preferred factory ride height. Could also be the car hasn't settled after being lifted off of it's wheels (2 post lift ?) or after an alignment or ? and the car has not settled...this normally takes 50-75 miles to do so. Beautiful car though...look at the side bolsters on the drivers front seat...astonishing ! I feel it's best to start a bit high for the asking price than low. I recently sold a 13,xxx mile, MY 79 OB for a bit less that was every bit as nice as^^. I'd value this^^OB's value between $45-55k. YMMV. T

Still looking for someone local to put eyes on it.
Talked to the seller Angelo. He said it runs but needs
Parts for " cooling" wasn't sure if it was radiator or reservoir. He stated car had been cranked from time to time to circulate fluid but has not been driven in over 5 years. Everyone here can fill in the blanks with that statement . So selling price + $.... = $.... = $ value
Everything sounds ok but just blindly sending payment to someone off of craigslist just doesn't make sense to me. We have Petit Lemans in Atlanta this weekend so I can't fly out and look at it myself. I'm looking at having to fly out first of next week Or pass on This one. Not like I need another one, but my daughter loves the color combo.

That's a nice, well written piece. So the story is now out on this car. To those who don't know anything about the 928, they now know that this is an extremely rare and important car. I can't wait until Sotheby rolls it out.
If you see the crazy money that "important" and very rare European cars - particularly collectible sports cars are bringing at the auction houses these days, $75-$112k isn't a lofty estimate at all. I suspect that this car will easily bring over $100k. If it doesn't, and it sells at no reserve, someone will be getting a smoking deal and investment.
What does $100k get you at an auction house like Sotheby when it comes to rare original European sports cars with a documented story and factory certification? Not many to choose from.
Anyone with the money and a proper place to keep a car like this, should be all over this one.

'86.5 Auto, 80k miles, $9,500
This looks to be a clean, well-maintained and upgraded '86.5 for that price!

It does look like a really nice car, but the $9,500 appears to be only a bid that hasn’t met reserve.
