Yep, someone is going to get a steal. It still needs some work but great bones with a lot already done to it.

Agree with Sean that this car was a steal. Wp/TB done with the appropriate associated rollers and cam gears. Nice rare colors.
1989 (best S4 year).
What went against it were:
1. Burgundy interior
2. Two very nice 928s that popped up afterwards, 86.5 5 spd, low mileage black/black S4.
If it was by itself or a few days earlier, I think it would've hit ~$15k.
For every one there, probably 10 on Craigslist that’s a fraction of the price. Lots of automatics. 1987’s are probably the the cheapest though. 89 is a good year, miles are more believable with the updated display. The 90-91 go for an obvious premium with the updated interiors, those appear to hold values better.

So?
When you are appraising a house do you head to the ghetto or find the top 10% comps?
Go ahead and find me 130 automatic S4's as nice as those for sale on Craigslist asking a fraction of those selling prices.
I cannot find one in the entire state of Wisconsin & Chicago.
Closest is an 84 EuroS Twin Dizzy, automatic - asking $14,500....which could be a screaming deal:
Porsche produced more automatic 928's (especially the 32V's) over 5-speed so it's only natural there are a lot more automatics for sale.
It's still a rare car, regardless of the transmission. With about 60k produced over 17 years, some guesstimating about half are still on the road. 928's are far more rare than mid-year 63-67 Corvettes.

That is worth a look, no doubt. Wish I was closer.
We actually owned a green 86 twin dizzy 5-speed manual years ago. Engine screeeems over 4K, definitely a rever! Nothing under 4K, but the way the engine revs is exotic feelings. As an automatic, the stock 32V is much much better. In other words, that engines greatness is blunted by the automatic. It will actually fell muchslower vs the 32v in automatic spec.
This is from first hand experience, not reading someone else’s accounts.
And hey, I’m all for higher prices! These cars have been under valued too long.. But I also do recognize that theirs lots of money to be made by getting Craigslist cars, cleaning them up... and reselling them on BAT. This is probably the trend for the next few years until values get so high that their no deals anywhere
Nate, lol! That rear a/c option always gives you the Horn!
Yes! That combined with the heated seats! I love options! Especially love the silly ones that you never use or actually need like the intensive washer system or rear AC. The more the better! I have full blown option envy I am man enough to admit it. This disease has me seriously considering a W12 Phaeton as my DD. Rear seat massagers! I'll never use that but they are there and that my friend absolutely honks my horn!
I remember when I first stated looking for a 928 and decided that a "light blue, single stage paint, GT" was what I wanted. I looked at a few poorly maintained 928 GTs with bad paint work and in the "wrong color." Then, came across a red GT, low miles, all original and with service records from Dave Chamberland. So, I bought it on the spot. Was slightly disappointed not to have a light blue car, only to find out years later, that there are probably only 2 light blue, single stage cars in the US, none of them GTs.
In the mean time, I have just gotten used to red and even have 2 red GTs albeit with dark interiors.
All I am saying in a round about way I guess is: avoid looking for unicorns. But, if what you want is available, buy ASAP, because there is not, in reality, such a big choice.
