This shocks me. I feel like modern Ferrari's are very impressive with build quality and materials.

All manufacturers have upped their build quality (maybe except Maserati?)... but I think Ferrari’s problem IMHO is the image it projects. Unfortunately the same can be said for a number of exotics and high end cars... they have become a little too commercial with the worst association possible from a social perception standpoint.

Mark,

I was shocked as well. The dash and interior trim was very cheap looking and feeling, not like the other models through the 812.

I think this car is their new entry level car and they've lost their way with the way they're choosing materials and the volume they expect to churn out.

Compared to my OTO, this thing is a Toyota. It's good quality for mass market, but I'm accustomed to Ferraris being coach built cars, not washing machines.

It's too bad, as I like the shape except for the grill. But I can't bear to be in the car the way it's finished. Chrome bits inside seem like shiny plastic covered and very cheap looking instead of real metal.

It didn't make me feel special when I was in it.. I really feel like they have lost their way since Luca left and Marchionne took over and now left his legacy. The volumes are up and the special-ness seems to be slipping away.

I'm sad about this because I really love the brand and the cars they make as you know.

Go check one out, I'd like your feedback too.!

Yes, it's quite something. Interesting analogy, it felt like they wanted $300k for a Maserati that should list at $150 and that Toyota charges $125 for. Sad

Maybe they subbed out manufacturing to Fiat
I do feel like the 12 cylinder cars were a step above the 8's with interior

It feels like they subbed it to Fiat when you get into it. Especially the switchgear and panels!!

And I agree the 12's feel different than the 8's.

Default Next Car

I just bought a 1999 996 Cabriolet 4. It was my next car. Now I have a 1990 928 S4, 1999 911 Cabriolet, 2000 Mercedes SL500 and a 2006 Mercedes E55. This will my cars for quite a while without any changes. I love them all.

I am thinking of buying this small 81 year old restored climate-friendly car. The powerful 13-horsepower engine makes overtaking an adventure. However, this particular car is supercharged which increased the power to 16 horsepower.

Speaking of Fiats - my new-to-me DD has an Fiat owned turbo-diesel

Only available 05-06 (in the USA), this Jeep replaces my BMW AWD sedan and old GMC diesel pickup with a more practical hydraulic dumping trailer.

These VM 2.8L CRDs are pretty easy to modify and tune (with a Chinese cable). I have a 480nm/350ftlb tune loaded (in first and second - the stock TC lockup chatters over 170ftlb )

I located a local 430 6-speed today. Going to try to arrange a drive in the next few weeks...

Continuing to favor the 599 but it is unwise to disregard highly regarded automobiles...

P.S. Fred, thanks for the information on the conversions...
