I think the Mercury Marquis is a find daily driver. Go for it 928nut! :-))) Better than my SAAB convertible probably, but not better than my 86' 900 SPG.
That original Saab body style (99 and 900) has an incredible amount of cargo room when the seats are down. Way more than a 4-door sedan's trunk of any era.
My dad had the Lincoln version of that Mercury (town car I guess? Like black-car service) later in life- 2 different ones. Not my kinda car but he really enjoyed them. I used to joke with him that his retirement job could have been shuttling people to and from the airport

Gasp! The first car I purchased was a 1973 Ford Pinto wagon, new, in college. Moved a lot of stuff in that car. Slept in the back on trips. Best gearbox I've ever owned, too. Didn't buy another American car until 2018.
Other cars I've owned mentioned in this thread: Saab 900 and 9000 (hatchback). I should also mention that the buyer of my Caprice "SS" drove off with a large quantity of extra parts plus six wheels in the trunk. Feeling regret that I sold it - actually do have storage space for it right now.
Lots of fun commonality in this part of the discussion: I also had a Saab 99 EMS (black with a silver strips and the snowflake wheels). A 72 Saab Sonnet and a Saab 92X. Cars were great and I slept in that EMS a bunch while ski racing... The 92X was basically a Subaru WRX wagon and a blast to drive in the snow. Never should have sold it!

Sold with just shy of 200,000 miles on the odo to a local guy who's doing a full Euro turbo conversion to it.
Are Scirosso's obscure? We sill have our 86 16V. Owned it now for 20 years, rust free, bought out of Texas. Never seen snow. I'm probably going to put it on BAT next year.
Obscurium? I ordered the fabulous, revolutionary Honda Accord in 1976, so sold the '73 Pinto (ironically, to a Japanese student who thought Honda's were crap). To tie me over during the long wait, I bought one of these:
These had such a short wheelbase that they were really mid-engine vehicles. So short I had to be careful about the rear wheels lifting when braking on a steep downhill, of which there were many in Troy NY. I recall taking it to Watkins Glen for an F1 race and associated shenanigans. One morning, it started up fine but wouldn't move. Odd. Some low-life, of which there were many in Troy NY, had helped himself to the driveshaft.
A very nice shiny SAAB. I know a young guy who loves 928 and SAAB. He has both a 928, but dreams of a Strosek, as well as a SAAB Talladega.

My late father sold Saab and Opel his whole life so for me it has been alot of Saabs and Opels trough the years.
The 9000 Aero is the best car I have owned. This one is my 6th 🤣
can you say something out of your experience about the battery degradation ?
The only thing i know is that "my" batterys ( PC,cell phone,bike,mower etc.. ) degrade to half ? capacity within a few years.
I assume also a Tesla has a max battery cycles ??
My Model S is 5 1/2 years old now, with 48k miles on the odometer. I use the car for running errands a few times a week, and about eight 500+ mile long distance trips per year (4 round trips). I'm currently at 93% of the original range. It seems there was some degradation at the beginning, but then it slowed to the point where further degradation is barely noticeable.
I don't lose sleep over potential battery defects. IF the battery ever goes bad, there are plenty of used ones available to replace it. The cheaper option would be to take it to a shop like Gruber Motors in AZ or QC Charge in CA and let them fix the battery.
Compared to the cost of owning of a 928, the Tesla costs a fraction:
- There is no scheduled maintenance. It needs brake fluid and a cabin air filter every 3 years.
- Electricity is much cheaper than gas; besides, my car is old enough to have lifetime free Supercharging (which I only use on long distance drives).
The two items that are a little pricey are tires ($1350 for a set of 19" Michelins including RoadForce balancing), and insurance. Still, given how cheap the car is to maintain and run otherwise, a battery issue would not be the end of the world. Not worse than a jumped timing belt on a 928 with a few "while you are in there" types of jobs.
There is a lot of FUD (fear uncertainty and doubt) propagated by the media about electric cars. But when you dig deeper, the cases where something major goes wrong are rare. Whether it's battery defects, fires, or else - the media loves anything that makes people "click" (If it bleeds, it leads). Since EVs are relatively new and Tesla has lots of haters, it's easy to get clicks with a misleading but sensationalistic headline. Don't fall for it - if you consider owning a Tesla, join a message board or local owners club and talk to people who actually own these cars. That's how you lean...
